Every other contending team in the AL is playing out of their mind. We. Cruise control and are going to end up going to Boston needing a damn split in order to get home field. I want my first half team back. This team has been spitting oil for a while now. You don't flip a switch and all your sh*t starts going right in the playoffs. Sox and tribe are tuning up while we fart around.
While all of that (in your world) may be true... all three of those teams are going to get 4 days off between the last game of the regular season and the first playoff game. Absolutely nobody will be hot (or cold) at the start of the playoffs.
It is not lost on me that it took a historic run to catch and pass us. Seemed like our year (may still be) but it figures another team will go out and do something historic when we are moving along. Hopefully you are right and any streak hot or cold resets before the post season. Something has to cool off Cleveland (and Boston for that matter). Would be nice to pass the tribe. Facing Boston up to 9 times in a row blows.
I don't think the Boston series will matter for the Astros one way or the other... we'll know for sure after game 2 of the next series. Baseball post-season is a new sport all by itself.
I don't think he has the mechanics/control right now to excel out of the bullpen either. If he's still partially hurt, or on the verge of re-aggravation (which the very strict pitch-count today suggests)... I'm not sure if he's going to be the weapon everybody is anticipating.
I certainly feel we have likely given away top seed. Hinch has given away a few games with his cute bullpen mgmt and then there is the OAK series. I'm lukewarm on our playoff chances. This has not been first half team for a while. Part of that is due to past injuries. I just hope that they find IT when it counts.
Yea. Me too. Devo is not the same player. LMJ obviously isn't. Our offense is no where near what it was during the first half. I know it was not sustainable but I didn't think we would cool to this degree. Maybe Correa, Springer and Oso Blanco are just starting to heat. Hell maybe even Beltran will turn back the clock.
The negativity in this thread is ridiculous. There's a difference between being realistic (or having your expectations slightly lower because this is Houston) versus being a defeatist like most of you are on here.
It's tough to win a game when your starter is pulled after 3.33 innings. But, it was necessary. It turned into a reliever audition for post-season spots. The loss is understandable but disappointing because it feels like we are giving up on going for the #1 seed.
Lol, in case you haven't noticed, it's been 21 years since Htown was Clutch City. As such, I'll be pessimistic about any Houston sports team, especially when it comes to crunch time, until they prove me wrong.
