After a day I am still very very sad. I've never been this angry and disappointed in Morey like this before. The Bosh one was tough but this time we had full control over the situation. We should've gotten Melo.

I've never bought into the argument that Morey didn't think Melo was worth more than Ryno. If Morey had known the situation would end like this, there's no doubt in my mind that he would have upped his offer and gave away Gordon and Ariza.

Melo on our squad just made too much sense, even if it meant losing Gordon. The biggest weakness of our team is that we don't have a forward that can make plays off the dribble. Ariza, Anderson, Mbah a Moute and Tucker are all mechanical players. Besides catch and shoot, they don't bring much to the table. In the playoffs, the Spurs put Danny Green on Anderson and completely shut Anderson down because he can't dribble. And to compete with a dynamic offensive team like the Warriors you would have to keep the scoreboard moving because they are so great offensively that you simply cannot stop them, you have to outscore them. Melo would have given us much better chance.

Losing Gordon would have been a pity. But is he really that irreplaceable as some have suggested? To me I can stomach the loss of Gordon. We already have a very strong backcourt with CP and Harden. We know MDA is going to stagger their minutes. Having a starting caliber guard in Gordon is great, but it's not a necessity. A serviceable guard (e.g. Monta Ellis) would have filled the void. And I've always thought that Ariza is vastly overrated here. After the addition of Tucker and Mbah a Moute, he has became obsolete.

Remember when we got CP Morey did a ton of interviews saying "we need to up our risk profile", "we need to add more team USA members", "we'll make our moves in the final lap". I guess deep down in his mind he thought he had gotten Melo. Because we had the exclusive window to trade Melo, he tried to play hardball and thought the Knicks would eventually fold but the result was disastrous for us. When Melo got desperate and expanded the wish list it became too late for us. Hindsight is 20/20 but it was a misjudgement on his part.

I try to positive about it but the future is not looking good for us. I can't help but think we're going to be stuck in mediocrity for a while. We'll be way over the cap after we re-sign Capela and there's very little room to operate even if a star becomes available in the FA market. The earliest draft pick we can trade is 2020. The only valuable asset we have for rebuilding team is Capela. Other contenders, such as the Cavs and the Celtics, are equipped with very good draft picks so if the next disgruntle star becomes available for trade, our odds would be very bad. This is why Melo was our best shot. This was a golden opportunity. We couldn't possibly ask for a better situation and I just can't believe Morey let it slip.

I've been a Rocket fan for more than 10 years and yesterday was 1 of my saddest moments as a Rocket fan. I think Morey is still a pretty good GM, all things considered. But this is embarrassing. I hope he learnt his lesson and don't outsmart himself next time. But it looks like our championship window over the next couple of years has just closed yesterday and Harden's prime would be wasted.

I am disappointed the Rockets did not get Melo. And SUPER pissed OKC got him instead. But I totally disagree that Morey would have given up Ariza/Gordon for him. Morey had that chance, even at the 11th hour and passed. No way does NYK take the Kanter/McDermott crap offer over Ariza/Gordon. No way. Morey passed.

If you are pissed, be pissed that MELO "caved" and opened up his NTC. He had the leverage. He did not want to play the "long game" that Morey was willing to play. And that is where things broke down. Melo DID NOT want to be part of NYK Media Day. And CHANGED HIS COURSE.

I don't agree. Kanter/McDermott is better than Ariza/Gordon. Both are crap offers for the Knicks. Gordon is useless for the Knicks because they are building around Hardaway and Ntilikina. Kanter's contract is a year shorter than Gordon's and there's a chance that he would opt out next summer(although unlikely). Once Melo expanded his list it became too late. Morey just messed up. And if Morey really did passed up, then he should be fired. Because I don't see how we can acquire a 3rd star now. We're stuck. Melo was our best shot. You have no idea how bad the situation is.

And I am super worried that CP might bolt next season because as things stand now it looks like we are heading towards another 2nd round exit.

I think the majority of people would disagree with that player evaluation.

I'm disappointed also but I think your going a little overboard.

I wanted melo I'm with you I actually did think his fit with the team would have elevated us to a legit shot at the beating golden state.

With that said the shot was under the assumption that we kept the whole team together minus Anderson.

Trading Gordon and Ariza for melo prob makes us a little better but not much and it could be a negative in the long run.

The rocket have legit 9 NBA rotation players and maybe 10 if you include black.

We have two top 10 players and MVP caliber talent.

We have room to improve we can always flip Ariza expiring contract or sign and trade Capela for a star big.

The team is stacked and I would be shocked if we're not the 2nd best team in the league even after the okc melo trade.

The parts don't fit great there, lots of talent but the fit is not what it would have been in houtson.

That team wasn't good enough to win it all whatsoever.

Not how GMs think. It is about the asset as a whole, not just "contract length." Gordon alone could get more for that Thunder duo. He is an under market contract, 3pt champ and 6th man of the year. McDermott is a Zero and Kanter ("Can't play Kanter") is mediocre. They are ONLY better than Anderson's "extra year." That is it.

    I added more...

Melo was not a superstar, if this was Lebron or some other actual superstar, I'd agree with you. If Durant did this to us last year, change his mind at the last moment, maybe...

But worst? We have no idea how this season will play out. By All-star break Melo could be hurt and already looking to get out of OKC, Rockets could be 2nd-3rd in the West and we could all be saying "Boy, glad we dodged that Melo bullet like we did that Parsons and Bosh one!"

Past decade, not even close to me. Dame shot hardest moment, we lost a playoff series on a game winner. Easy to say now we weren't a contender.

Then Yao's last game saddest moment...he was just entering his prime too...

Harden quitting last season the most frustrated...

    This don't register for me.

I kinda feel you on this. Lets not use the word "stuck" yet; wait and see how this team turns out. But you're right in the sense that it is going to be very difficult to acquire another big piece in the next two years.

I wish I could agree with you. But keeping Gordon and Ariza won't move a needle. Flipping Ariza for another role player won't move a needle. Sign and trade Capela is extremely difficult. We are stuck with Ryno and have no draft pick. Our conference rival just got a lot better than us (at least on paper). We'll be way over the cap next summer. It's hard to be optimistic when you put 2 and 2 together. All because of a misstep by our GM..smh

I wanna sulk about this for a few more weeks but will throw in some optimism here and there.
Lets remember when we thought we had Bosh and it fell through. Turned out for the better.

They can still do it depending on what that piece is. Things change, are fluid. Depending on the piece, Capela and Gordon could be moved.

We have seen how Morey operates. To say he is "stuck" is a bit foolish.

Yeah for sure "Stuck" is too strong of a word. I don't know why I'm so frustrated but I think someone else hit the nail on the head. If Melo had ended up on Cavs, it would have stung so much less. I would never consider it worth giving up EG and Ariza for it. But now seeing he ended up in OKC it makes me take a much closer look at what we have and I would say I most definitely would have given up EG in a trade. We definitely would not have as good of a regular season record losing the depth, but come playoff time I would take a team of Harden Paul and Melo over one that included EG and Ariza any day.

We had 11 playoff games last year. Gordon only scored more than 15 points three times. Averaged under 13 points. I'm not saying he had a bad playoffs, we had more options like Lou and Bev and got enough out of them. But I don't think we can count on EG to do more than what he did, while Melo undoubtedly would assure us he would get more buckets. We'd be able to count on three players scoring close to 20 points per game. That will take you far no matter what.

I am not so much pissed that the Rockets didn't get Melo as I am that Melo ended up with OKC. No question. Especially when OKC "already got Paul George." Counting Taj Gibson, that is THREE straight times OKC swooped in ahead of the Rockets for additions. That is annoying.
