Haha Trump turned what was a a few isolated incidences into a matter of free speech. Even the NFL and Trump supporting owners are now speaking up against his little tirade.

If Trump cared about disrespecting the flag, then he literally made the situation 100x worse. I'm guessing that a majority of nFL players will start disrespecting the flag by kneeling. MLB players and NBA players are to follow suit.

This is what Trump does, whenever he tries to solve a problem he makes it 100x worse.

    Serious question.

What event led to Kaepernick starting all of this?

Thank you, Captain Obvious. NFL players largely do not have guaranteed contracts. I know that might be news to you over in Moscow. You are probably not up on the intricacies of American sport.

The uptick (either in reality or in coverage) of police shootings of black people over the last few years.

The left hates this country. Right now they seem to be dead-set on making sure everyone knows it.

No it's not. Congress has no fear of him anymore and he has lost a ton of his influence with the Republican Party leadership. He's now unable to accomplish pretty much anything because his party has become more willing to criticize and challenge him (and Dems are united). That's why he did the deal with the Dems that basically gave them everything they wanted. He's in a far worse position today than he was 8 months ago, and it's because of his actions as President. If he was up for reelection tomorrow, he'd lose in a landslide.

Its hard to get behind it when it happens to both parties. Obviously a bigger backlash when it happens to African Americans.

Shouldn't the protest be more about the sentencing that Blacks get as compared to whites for similar crimes. That is one issue I think is absolutely disgusting.

I don't think he would necessarily lose. His outspoken ways have hurt him, but if the Dems run a similar campaign as they did before he would still stand a chance. His base hasn't left him and there are many others who support him privately while they bash him publicly to save face.

In an ideal world, yes. But change is often driven by narrative that people can connect with and feel in a visceral way. Harsher sentencing of a criminal is not a cause people are going to really get behind. Police shootings have captured the national spotlight.

That said, the two issues are connected - it's not just police shooting black people. It's that they routinely get away with it, even with video and other such evidence now showing how often police lie about what happened. So it *is* connected to the criminal justice system too as opposed to just being the shootings. White people getting shot by police is a problem too, but it doesn't have all the historical connotations connected to oppression that black shootings do.

All you can do at this point is sit back and watch it bite them in the ass. The left is so un-American right now that know one is going to want to line up with those lunatics.

    God speed morons!

I believe his poll numbers are the worst in modern history for a President at this stage. He polled much higher at the time of the election and he lost the national vote by 2% then. Switch that to 3 or 4% and he'd have lost comfortably given how many states were within 1%. Even with Hillary as the candidate, he loses easily today. With any more competent candidate, it's a blowout. You can even see that in all the local and state races where Dems have been performing substantially better (10+ points) than they did in November.

It is a weird place we live in right now. I talked to my pops this morning(former state trooper, by the way I hope he has never written anyone here a ticket), and he thinks this country is headed firmly towards socialism.
