I guess so, but you'll still have to find a team with 20M in cap space willing to not spend that money just to absorb his contract (for at least a 1st rounder of course) so...good luck with that.
So how long until a story comes out discussing how the Melo to Rockets deal was minutes away until Melo came in with an expanded list. It will be like ripping off that bandaid. I would honestly ask for some patience here moving forward. Jeff Lunhow got destroyed for not making moves at the trade deadline and ended up getting the best pitcher available for less than what other teams gave up for marginal players. Time will work itself out.
Carmelo Anthony will still have a no trade clause, only this time with the Oklahoma City Thunder. The no trade carries over in the trade. Bobby Marks, ESPN
People really overrate Melo too. He's better than Anderson, sure. Westbrook also doesn't make players around him better, in fact, he lowers their value. Funny how OKC went into last season as the better team too but then by the end of it "Westbrook has trash on his team."
I know it's not the end of the world but a lot people are using the "Calm down, Melo is 33" narrative only when it doesn't benefit us. Fact of the matter is we always understood Melo was an aging star, but he is still a game changer. If we look at it objectively, we probably could've found a replacement for Capela. To the people saying Chris Paul's decision to stay is a constant with/without Melo, you don't know that. Obviously players change their minds & obviously a lot things that we find logical on here don't actually happen & what actually happens are the things that come out of left field, like OKC. TWICE. So unless Morey has a backup plan... I really don't understand why he didn't offer a bit more to beat the OKC deal... He low balled them & he lost to Presti. Part of me feels like he got cocky with the Knicks situation & trusted that Melo solely wanted Houston when in reality Melos thought process was more like "Houston would be nice but the most important thing is getting me the **** out of here". Just really hope Morey has another plan & isn't in a room right now scratching his head in defeat.
"They will find a way"..with the way this summer is going, teams will be giving them roleplayers like Bradley and Tobias Harris for the rights of retired 50 y.o Ukranians.
Melo is probably more effective as a stretch 4 tbh... he would have played the 4 for us also next to Ariza
I’m not a fan of okc by any means but if it ends up being gs vs okc I’ll absoluty be routing for okc. If the rockets don’t win nothing would make me happier is thunder beating the warriors and give a big f u to Durant.
Melo is also the one who didn't want to sign here 3 years ago btw, he chose to stay in that shitty enviroment trusting Dolan and Mills and wasting the last years of his prime so...good luck to him.
This is how I feel bc Carmelo has to approve that trade and if so then *** em. Roll with what we got.
Folks nut hugging Presti. SMH. This is the same GM who failed to keep together what could have been a perennial title contender for years. I'll give him credit for getting George/Melo for scraps, but this is the last gasp of a team destined to become the next NO Pelicans. As for Morey, yeah I think he gave up too much for CP3, but he still improved the roster. And, we all know he's not done working. I think this roster can compete with the best and there's still a chance the deadline brings another move.
