    Dolan thinks: "Morey is desperate. He'll give in eventually and throw in Capela or Gordon with Anderson. Or at least a future 1st-rounder. I'm smarter than that ping-pong playing dork. I'll just wait him out."

    Meanwhile, Morey sits patiently at his desk, looking at spreadsheets and waiting for the phone to ring.

    Call me crazy, but I could see Morey throwing in Gordon, but not for the reasons listed. I could see the three headed monster of Gordon, Harden, and CP3 having some growing pains. If so, adding Melo then bargain hunting a back up point guard could be in the stars for DM. Unfortunately, this won't play out until after the season has started. Regardless, as long as Melo restricts his options to the Rockets we have all the cards. I think Melo would be a rocket, but I'd be shocked if he were here by the start of the season. He will be a December/February addition at the earliest. Hey, I hope I'm wrong and this deal gets done by this Friday, say, at 4:30?

    If the Rockets want this to happen, blasting out of the gate on something like a 16-4 or 17-3 run would send a nice message to Melo.

    Casting aside Beasley’s ominous history as a journeyman, there’s an important uncertainty as it relates to Beasley’s opportunity in New York. The 28-year-old plays the same position as Carmelo Anthony, while carrying similar attributes as a score-first forward with deficiencies on defense.

    Beasley even said he patterned his game off Anthony, whose future with the Knicks remains in limbo just a week ahead of training camp.

    “Carmelo’s been like my mentor,” said Beasley, a D.C. native. “If you watch my game, really watch my game, my jab series, all that, I’m literally just Carmelo on the left side of the floor. Like I’ve known Carmelo since I was 13 years old, one of my best friends, one of the best players I’ve ever met.”

    Beasley said he’s been working out at Knicks practice facility for about two weeks, joined by several teammates including Joakim Noah. One notable absence is Anthony, who has been training separately at a gym in Manhattan.

    Although a divorce seems inevitable, trade discussions with the Houston Rockets have stalled and Anthony — who owns a no-trade clause — has declined to expand his list of destinations. Beasley was signed last month on a one-year, veteran’s minimum deal as insurance should the Knicks Beasley, brimming with confidence, said he anticipates playing alongside Anthony and “finally making the playoffs” despite projections to the contrary.    ​
