I think the Knicks want to facilitate Melo to Houston, as long as they aren't worse off than before. They don't want assets necessarily. They just see Ryno's deal is a year longer than Melo's (potentially 2), and whatever Morey has offered to sweeten the pot just doesn't put them in a better or even equal spot than an out place Melo on a 2 year deal.

Both Faried and Chandler are on expiring deals, so I think either would be a welcome addition in that it improves their salary situation vs Melo or Ryno.

Edit: they're on 2 year deals.

Faried? Nah, I don't think so. Wilson? I doubt it, he's not much of an asset for their rebuild. Somebody's still gonna have to take Anderson. I don't think a potential salary dump from Denver would have anything to do with a Melo trade.

I think those are solid stop-gap options for them while they search for their players of the future

I don't know why I keep coming back to this thread. I can't stop. I want it to go back to this site being about multiple threads.

Shouldn't the majority on here by now feel Melo to Houston is not likely? Not trying to be a dick, but seriously, I understand being hopeful when the rumours came out 2 months ago. But now??

I still find it likely Melo is a Rocket by the trade deadline. I'm not nearly as confident he'll be a Rocket by opening day.

Ok. That's fair. I disagree wholeheartedly but ain't mad at that.
I just think there are wayyy too many things would have to hold true
    1) Melo would have to stick to his guns and not expand his list (that's possible, but we really don't know how adamant he will be in a few months)
    2) Things would have to go miserable in New York (also possible but that would involve Melo throwing a fit about being there which I don't see happening. His woman and his kid's there; doubt he'd pout over having to stay in NY)
    3) Knicks would have to lose (yeah it's likely but it's a pretty weak conference, not out of the question for them to nab an 8th seed)
    4) We'd have to improve our trade offer, I use to be hopeful about December when more guys can get traded, but I mean what if we're doing really well, which would probably involve PJ Tucker playing well for us like EG did last year; doesn't that make him just as unexpendable as others. Does the ability to trade Luc or Troy really tip the scales for NY with Ryno still needing to be involved.
    5) Ryno must not suck (also possible)
    6) Perry pulls off a horrible trade as his first big move

There are more. And even though those things all CAN happen, it only takes one to not hold true and this all falls apart

I think that there's a decent chance we improve our trade offer before the deadline. That's when you put your nuts on the table. See: Verlander deal

Faried isn't on an expiring deal, and neither is Wilson Chandler unless he decides to not take his PO next summer...it doesn't matter anyways because NY has shown no desire to take Ryno's contract, and Denver definitely isn't gonna take it, so then there would have to be some 4th team if Denver and their salary dump were ever involved in a Melo deal

Whoops. Either way, I think a 2 yr contract gets the deal done. I think the Knicks are very open to simply making a lateral move to just close the door on the Melo saga. What they won't do is take on an extra year of large Salary to facilitate Melo here. Not unless Morey makes the offer a little sexier via picks/prospects.

Denver wanting to make a salary dump opens up a couple doors, but also some concerns. Who has cap to take on Ryno without making room? Denver would take on picks, Portland/Detroit/??? would take Ryno, NY would take on Faried/Chandler, we get Melo seems ideal.

The weird thing is that there is no Carmelo Anthony mention on front page of the knicks.com. What do you think this will do? It is almost time for camp and the Knicks still have Carmelo Anthony on their roster...
