I guess you could say it was a safe game even though he nearly threw 2 picks but when your QB doesn't give you more than 125 yards in the air, you can't call it a legitimately good game. 125 yards passing would be a good game for a non-QB that was playing as a QB, but not for a real QB.
This is why BOB is a good coach. Why put the game at risk. People who complain about the offense dont get it. He inherited a good defense. Obviously they will need more O but they didn't Thursday. There is one objective. Not passing yards
BOB is 19-0 with the 1st half lead. I admittedly was irritated with him Thursday night(also drunk) for not opening it up, but forgot to consider the constant 7 man line rotations with no TE. The moment tends to help you forget things. BOB is a great coach who could do a better job of letting his guys have a bit more freedom.
Thanks for that stat. I knew he had a good record when leading early but wasn't exactly sure. Dude closes
Check Alex Smith's (your favorite Watson comparison) stats and yardage his first few seasons in the NFL. Given that Watson's Bengals game in his first ever start 2 weeks into the season was better than any game that Alex Smith played his rookie campaign, you, of all people, should be thrilled.
He isn't thrilled because his argument has no legs. That is what Bobby does. How can I disagree with this person? Anyways, Looking at all QB's and their rookie years(exclude Dak Prescott-see running game), there are plenty of 125-175 yd games with a pick or two mixed in. The LB's are moving like college corners out there. It takes time to get used to the game.
I'm not sure what point you think you are making here... I understand that they made the game plan based on what they had to work with, but part of the problem is not having an NFL caliber passer at QB. In order to work around that, they tried to do as many short passes as possible and use the run game to shorten the game. The plan worked.
Why throw the ball when you don't need to. Its stupid He runs when leading no matter who is qb. Thats why yall mistakenly complain about offense
I think what people are taking offense to is that you are making these conclusions on still VERY limited evidence. You might be 100% right. But there's still nowhere near enough NFL evidence to backup the claim that he's not an NFL caliber passer. heck, Mr. Brady himself, in his first "real" year - where he replaced Bledsoe in game 2 of the season, had games of 168, 86, 107, 108, 185, 198, 202... etc. He had 5-6 (depending on if you include that first game where he came in partway through and only threw for 46 yards) games of 0 touchdown passes. Peyton was of course a much more prolific passer, with more of a gunslinger mentality as a rookie - 26 TD, 28 interceptions - but even he had 6 games under 200 yards passing as a rookie, including a 140 yard game. Someone already mentioned Alex Smith - laughable rookie numbers... and honestly hopefully someone Deshaun easily surpasses. 10 of Derek Carr's first 16 games came in under 200 yards with a low of 146. I'm not sold on DeShaun as the best passer in the world... but I'm much more concerned about (1) Billy's offensive schemes in general, (2) o-line, and (3) other offensive help (WR beyond Hopkins, TEs) than I am about Deshaun. He had some throws that should have been picks. He's also had drops that should have been caught. More than anything, the positives are he has great pocket awareness, can make the throws when given time, seems to have great leadership qualities and high football IQ... all things he has in common with some of the aforementioned QBs and which should serve him well as he progresses... even though he has a lot of things working against him from an offensive standpoint and coaching standpoint.
Not an NFL caliber passer? Those passes in the 2nd half had some zip and better accuracy on them. He actually started passing better before then with that 18 yard bomb he threw down the middle to Hopkins right before the half.
Bobby is just being Bobby, guys. He convinces himself of something with far too little evidence, stands by it staunchly, and then once he is proved wrong, he either deflects blame, runs circle logic around those pointing out his wrongness, or just simply moves on to the next staunch stance, all but forgetting about the previous one.
I would love to see some evidence that suggests Watson could be an average NFL passer this season....but unlike some I'm not going to just go on faith, I need to see something, anything that would suggest it is possible and there simply hasn't been anything to cling to. I'm not really trying to convince the fanboys of anything, I know that their love is blind and it is unconditional and that's fine, I just hope they'll stop whining when they see rational analysis based on the quality of play we are actually seeing on the field. When he has his first good game as an NFL passer, I'll be the happiest person here, I'm just not going to fellate the guy over managing 125 yards passing in a game. Clearly some don't have that same policy.
The evidence has been laid forth. Many posters have already showed rookies and what they did their rookie season. Beyond that, it's not that there's not evidence. I'd venture to say that the final drive in the fourth quarter of the Bengals game, a drive that he supposedly orchestrated largely by himself, is evidence enough. More than anything, though, it's the fact that you've already judged him in 6 quarters of football, with a vastly limited lineup of NFL caliber play-makers dressed. On top of all of that, something that others have pointed out, is the fact that the offense itself has limited his stats. In those six quarters, with this offensive line and the limited weapons, Tom Brady himself wouldn't have thrown for more than 400 yards. I say 400 yards because it's a game and a half. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Watson is destined to be great, or a Pro Bowler, either. I'm just saying for someone to say he is not NFL caliber, they're selling him very short. Even you're better than that.
You aren't even arguing using true facts lol. He was throwing the ball with the lead more to go get that field goal. I really can't believe you are defending the offense. It's crazy.
Talking about what other players with different skill sets did or how other people also played poorly isn't evidence of what Watson can or can not do THIS season.
Im defending winning. Argue with 19-0 when leading at the half He plays to his strength. They have an elite defense no tight end best o lineman holding out But you wanna see Madden. Just go play Madden bro
It's crazy that you think the options are terrible offense or madden. Just dumb. It's pretty ridiculous that you think their 9-7 bar and playoff nothing burgers is proof that their offensive game plan works lol.
