When Kaepernick has head straight he has arguably the best arm in the league On the Jerry Rice comparison, Watson is a very smooth efficient and definitive runner. Definitive as far as getting to the hole and heading north/south. It was a very good observation, because thats what made Rice's game speed better than his track speed
Perhaps the strongest, but nowhere near the best given that you never know where the ball will end up, you just know it's going to be thrown hard and far. They figured out pretty early on that he was a gimmick running QB and didn't really try to hide that fact. When the league caught up to the read option, his career was over because that's all he was ever any good for.
A lot of it was the fact that he was hyped as more than he was. If he was a late first round pick, people would have been thrilled with how he turned out, but instead he was the overall first pick in the draft in the same draft class as Aaron Rodgers and guys like Demarcus Ware. It's not fair, but undue hype can haunt players when they can't live up to unrealistic expectations.
Am I the only one who wants Deshaun to stop the end zone celebrations? Don't get me wrong. Part of me wants to see him have fun, but the other part of me doesnt want to see him get targeted.
He's only been in the end zone once, and when it happened it was a ridiculous 49 yard run on a broken play. When that's your first ever TD, you get to celebrate a bit. If he makes a habit of getting into the end zone, then we'll talk.
I don't think any of the players will target guys over celebrating this year I mean they have relaxed on the rules and at the end of the day its a game and it's meant to be fun.
Deshaun hasn't lost a road game since 2014(Alabama 16' was neutral field). Would be nice if he could create that Magic Sunday.
Cian is a very informed NFL analyst, but it seems to be that he hates 95% of QBs. He recently put out an article comparing Carson Wentz to Blake Bortles. Hope he wrong, but I respect his opinion a lot.
Aren't people who've watched him at Clemson saying he's a rhythm passer? That he gets better as the game progresses? All those plays were from the 1st half. He improved his passing in the 2nd half, esp. that long drive in the 4th when we ate up 6 min and got into FG range. BoB said Deshaun was calling those plays. His favorite targets were Hopkins and Ervin.
I won't say not an nfl Qb like that guy did, but he's right that those are really bad plays. The velocity issues are apparent and I hate hearing that guys without rocket arms were great QBs. So annoying. No one is talking about the ability to bomb downfield, we're talking about completing those throws to the sidelines before a defender can close. It's not a LONG throw but you do have to get it there fast. Watson just can't make that throw right now, at least not with any regularity. He has to get better at that I hope it's just a footwork issue. The blitz thing is very real as well. Goodness, that one clip he freaks out without even being under pressure he just sees it and assumes it will get there. That's a habit you need him to break and hope this season isn't going to sear it into his DNA.
The bad throw to the sidelines was 3rd quarter. That specific throw is the one that concerns me about his future. I talked about it the day we drafted him. That's the throw that killed Schaub. His arm got weaker (probably due to shoulder injury) and he couldn't get that ball to the sidelines before a defender could break on it. That led to him overcompensating and hyperfocusing when he was going to make that throw and defenders could read it. That's a common issue for guys who struggle with that throw. When they KNOW they will throw there they zero in on it before they make the throw to try to put extra effort. That leads to the defender sitting the route and getting an easy pick. It's a HARD throw to make because the reaction time is so little. If a defender has an extra split second to recover they can jump the route.
If he's going to make a video like that he should also include his good throws/positive plays. Looks like a certified troll.
He is very informed, but at least one of those sideline throws should have been caught. It wasn't perfect like Siemian throws them, but they should be caught. As far as "panic", well yeah the pocket collapsed almost immediately and it was also his first start on a short week. The part about being oblivious to coverages is concerning, and it is something we are seeing with Jared Goff as well and even Carson Wentz. If Watson doesn't learn how to read coverages, he will end up like Vince Young. It is something that I am sure he will get better at, as he is a really hard worker. However will he ever be able to process it quick enough? Time will tell. He also needs to stop the single reads so much.
What I have noticed about Watson is the INCONSISTENCY in his velocity. Sometimes he makes the quick throw the sidelines and it doesn't seem like an issue and other times it is just slapped down easily. I have seen it on the few deep throws he has made as well.
Meanwhile Deshaun Watson has the 2nd highest QBR this season, only behind Matt Ryan. Yes, Watson is higher than Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Derek Carr.. http://www.espn.com/nfl/qbr
