And Jerry Rice ran a 4.7 and outran 4.4 and 4.5 DB's on the regular.

A 40 yard dash is more telling of initial acceleration. Not Top End Speed. But you already know that.

You aren't making a case that the most similar player to Watson in the NFL isn't a similar player with this sidebar,....you know, just so that you know that.

The only case I am making is that you are basing a hypothetical on a 40 yard dash number that has almost anything to do with what happens on the field.

No, I'm basing it on a career of being the same type of player. Me pointing out that they even run a similar 40 time is just one small part of that. LOL I'm not even sure why you are complaining about it so much, if Watson ends up being as good as Alex Smith it'll be a good thing because it'll mean he became a solid NFL QB for a decade.

Watson is five levels more dynamic than Alex smith is. Yes Alex smith has some speed and is athletic FOR A QB but trying to compare him as an athlete to Watson is a super reach Bobby. I won't deny that he got some great blocking on that play but come on with trying to put Deshaun and Alex freaking smith on the same athletic level.

Well that's a nice narrative, but that's something that hasn't been proven yet.

As to athleticism, Alex Smith has been a nearly 500 yard rusher in the NFL as a QB....is it that he's white that makes you doubt his athleticism? I mean, there's not really any other grounds for you to do so.

Just for fun, which was the rushing numbers for DeShaun Watson's last season in college and which was the rushing numbers for Alex Smith's last season in college?

    135 attempts for 631 yards and 10 TD's
    165 attempts for 629 yards and 9 TD's

Man I'm a tell you this. Alex Smith is athletic man. I don't doubt that part of his game at all. But when Kap was hot he just made him look like a system qb because Kap had this niche of making things happen more. Smith played it more safe.

Alex Smith can't evade defenders like Watson can.

For sure, Kap is an outright running QB, Alex Smith is merely an athletic QB that can run when he needs to, IMO that's what Watson is or should be. If Watson can learn to be "safe" like Smith, he'll last a long time in the league.

Better than the "I must crap on anything anyone says positive about Watson" narrative you've been on ever since we drafted the guy(reading what you post makes it seem like Deshaun has the worst arm in NFL history).

But no the eye test tells me that Deshaun is a much better athlete than Alex Smith. Deshaun has elite elusiveness, quickness, and escape ability(showed it in bunches against arguably the best college defenses in the last 10+ years, has shown plenty of flashes of it on the NFL level). Alex Smith is an athletic guy, he's one of the more athletic QB's, I'm not taking anything away from him. Deshaun is more athletic, and it's pretty obvious. I highly doubt anyone else other than you says Alex Smith is on the same athletic level as Watson. Alex Smith is successful because he has very high football IQ. He's overly conservative(a true captain check down) but one thing about him is he rarely makes bad decisions. I hope Deshaun gets that part of his game for sure, but in the long run if he keeps it up I have little doubt he ends up better than Alex Smith.

As to the race comment I'd put Tim Tebow on the same level as Deshaun in terms of athleticism, so no that has nothing to do with what I can see with my eyes.

I guess I could see how fanboys would see legitimate criticism as that. No one likes their unrealistic expectations to be doused by a wet blanket of reality.

My realistic expectations of Deshaun is to struggle with his accuracy and decision making as most rookie QB's do. I know he's not anywhere close to perfect, but you literally go out of your way to crap on anything positive anyone says about him. Going through any thread on here, the moment someone says "Deshaun did something good" you come back with a "yea, but he has no arm ability" or something along the lines of that. Even the Brady's, Manning's, Bree's, and Rodger's miss on throws every game. Not every throw is going to be perfect, especially now, but if he throws a ball 2 inches away from where he should you come out with the "see, no arm talent" comments.

I want him to be successful cause I want the Texans to be successful. You should want him to be successful(you'll prob say you do in the reply but your posts paint a different picture)

Again, that's simply not the case, but I get how one of his fanboys might see things that way.

I never said I didn't post, I said that you are mischaracterizing what I'm saying very similar to how Lin fans would get upset about those who pointed out anything Lin did wrong or that was lacking from his game.

If you were paying attention, you'd see that I give him credit every time he does something well and my criticisms of his game as of this season are completely fair and I don't even blame him for them in that IMO they are fixable things and he has no business being on the field yet.

Not even close to Deshauns run. Smith had the heavens open up and just B lined until a defender got close.

Watson was patient, followed his blockers and evaded multiple defenders. Smith could never make that run.

I think Russell Wilson or even Cam Newton are a more apt comparison. Alex Smith is basically a poor mans Aaron Rodgers. He's fine but unathletic and incapable of the same home run plays Deshaun can make.

watching the eagles game, only 5 passes of smith's 28 attempts traveled in the air more than 10 yards. So many cross patterns and screens.
One of the problems with our receivers, not named hopkins, is the inability to beat press coverage. Big fail last year. I thought miller would get better at it. need to hand battlefight stronger.

Honestly I'd be pretty happy if Watson could be Alex Smith... with our D that should be enough.

I think Alex Smith takes a lot of **** for being one of the 10-12 best QBs over the past decade.
