Six times. I shake the bottle 6 times. Lea & Perrins is unusable otherwise.
I particularly recommend this method before opening a bottle of champagne.

I don't know about shaking bottles, but 42 is a great game to play with dominoes.

Shake it well refers to you, i.e., to your technique. It's akin to saying, "shake this bottle with style and panache"

Has anyone ever shaken a bottle of Lea & Perrins (in whatever direction that suits you), and then had the plastic thingy at the opening of the bottle designed to limit outflow fly off, resulting in Lea & Perrins getting dumped all over your plate in mass quantities? It's happened to me half a dozen times over the last 50 years. That's a hell of a thing to do to a steak, not to mention anything else that might be on your plate.

I think you need therapy if you are listening to bottles that are telling you to do something, but it's even more disturbing that you are actually doing what it tells you to do.
