Yao Ming was a failure compared to Vernon Maxwell. He never accomplished anything. Yeah, he brought us some more Asian fans and made Les a lot of money by tapping into that Chinese market but he didn't do much else. I guess he made a few all-star teams due to the China vote. On the other hand, Vernon Maxwell was CLUTCH CITY. He was a key contributor to TWO championships. Vernon was known for his toughness and hitting clutch shots.

    What do you guys think?

You mean 1.5 championships. He was MIA in the playoffs the 2nd time around. Literally MIA. Like Derrick Rose MIA. I forgive him of course... but still.

True, but he still contributed to that team and has 2 rings to show for it.

I love Mad Max. Love... and I forgive him, too... but I don't forget. Straight up walked out on a championship team.

I'll admit it does bug me as a long-time Rockets fan that we retired #11 for Yao when Mad Max was instrumental in that first championship. He saved the team in Game 3 at Phoenix when they were on the verge of getting swept. He was huge in that 5th game against Utah to clinch the Western Conference title. And obviously the big 3-pointer late in Game 7 vs the Knicks that pretty much sealed the deal.

Yes, Maxwell quit on the team in the 1995 playoff run. But that doesn't negate what he did in 1994. I get Yao's symbolic importance to this franchise and to the league and he was a terrific player when healthy. But in the end, the farthest the Rockets ever got with him was Game 7 of the Semifinals and he wasn't even around past the 3rd game of that series.

Yao Ming was a failure, always hurt, specifically at playoff time. Couldn't get up and down the floor, which slowed the whole team up. Not even a good rocket, retire jersey, come on. He did hit free throws, which was nice.

This is clearly a shot at people who do not want Tracy retired and the arguments they use. He's not serious about Max

Vernon Maxwell was a role player. Role players usually don't get their jerseys retired. Its like retiring Robert Horry's jersey.

50 year old maxwell has made amends with the Rockets and the fans.
As a fan who met him recently with other ClutchFans , he's appreciative that we remember him jacking John Starks.
For others like Steve Francis who's lost his way it's good to see Maxwell being a model citizen

It shouldn't be retired. But if #11 is gonna hang in the rafters, Maxwell's name should be on it before Yao's.

He was also the one who started Clutch City, because the Rockets were labeled "CHOKE CITY" after losing 2 games in a row to Phoenix.
they were down at half in game 3 in Phoenix, until Maxwell went crazy for 35 points and the Rockets rode that comeback all the way to the title.
