With the O line being a sieve, Savage was going to get concussed or worse in the 2nd half. Watson has elusiveness and can move. He wasn't ready, but it definitely wasn't horrible.
FYI QB for Browns 2nd round pick rookie Started, 222 yd 20/30 1 TD 1 int 7sacks And they got Texans 1st and 2nd This is painful to stomach
Boy was I delusional!!! I think our defense looked better under Crennel without Watt then with Vrabel and Watt. What a disappointment they were today. Just think, this is probably the worst team we will face all year, except maybe Cleveland. But, even Cleveland scored more points today than us and they played a better team in Pittsburgh. Just when I thought the worst was over with Osweiller out the door reality came to slap me in the face. After the first 5 sacks I'm surprised I didn't puke up my queso and chips, which would have been ugly considering I had habaneros in there. After 5 more sacks, 3 lost fumbles and an interception I felt as if I never want to watch football again. I don't know why I do sometimes, because after months of anticipation, and hope for a better year I end up feeling like crying. Our offense hasn't been fun to watch since before Schaub got that Lisfranc injury. That seems like ages ago. I think it would be less painful getting punched in the stomach a few times than watching the game today. At least you know a gut punch will hurt, but nothing hurts as bad as seeing your team lose like that, when you expected so much more. Then, just to rub a little salt in the wound I had to stomach a commercial by Methodist hospital with Duane Brown working out. Ugh! Being a Texans fan is really not fun.
Bengals shut out at home today They will be motivated to win Texans is sitting duck Hope Watson is not hurt by more sacks
Bill O'Brien 'It was a bad day' Bill O'Brien said Tom Savage did best he could, was hit a lot 'decision I made was to get something going' Bill O'Brien 'It was a terrible day on offense, not much better on defense' Bill O'Brien noncommittal on when he'll make decision on Deshaun Watson or Tom Savage on Thursday Bill O'Brien takes the blame for offensive line shortcomings 'I've got to do a better job' Bill O'Brien 'We've got to play faster' Bill O'Brien 'we've got a lot of work to do. It's going to be tough. Going to be a long night tonight' Tom Savage 'Obviously, no one wants to ever be replaced' Tom Savage on what's next 'It's out of my control' Texans tackle Chris Clark 'If you play the game long enough, it will happen for you' Watt said he was "terrible. There's no other way to describe it." Watt "There's only one way to go from here and that's up. We can't play much worse." O'Brien: It wasn't a good day. Got to do a better job coaching. It starts with me. O'Brien continually putting #Texans' Week 1 showing on himself. "It's on me." Savage: "Obviously you never want to be replaced. ... I'll be here for this team." Tom Savage: "You can boo me all you want. But just don't boo my guys. That's where it hurts." Deshaun Watson: "I was just waiting. You never know in this league." _________________________________ Since we know Bill won't provide injury updates: Brian Cushing - concussion Ryan Griffin - concussion Bruce Ellington - concussion C.J. Savage had a terrible game, but one half and you lose the starting job? How close was the competition in camp then? If Savage was so bad that he gets benched after just 1 half, why wasn't Watson getting more reps with the first team? Savage was getting decimated because "No O"brien didn't adapt to the situation. no imagination, no misdirection, no personality in the play calling. I mean, there are plays that can beat a rush that you know is coming.
It won't make enough of a difference, so honestly, I hope they don't. I'd rather see him gone at the end of the year.
610 postgame show calling out the staff for not giving Foreman more time today. I was baffled throughout the game as well. Need as many play makers on the field as possible. O'Brien is just clueless out there.
I would rather see the best offensive lineman on the team play for the team. They don't have any draft picks next year.
The Browns new GM is an analytics guy too, one of the first for the NFL. We need to see if Morey has some MIT friend to start the analytics revolution in the NFL.
Did he forget who was on the team with all his play calling duties? I remember last year Shane Lechler had to touch this dude on the shoulder and suggest that he throw the red flag because he wasn't paying attention.
Too late. We're the suckers. The dumb old school NFL team that drafts based on winning in college and trades picks because the coach knows how to coach.
Over the long term, no. Short term....he's the best option unless you replace 3 guys on the O line with actually good players.
Schaub-->Fitzpatrick-->Mallett-->Hoyer-->Osweiler-->Savage-->Watson & from Duane Brown, Wade Smith/Ben Jones, Chris Myers, Brandon Brooks & Derek Newton to Kendall Lamm, Xavier Su'a-Filo, Nick Martin, Jeff Allen & Chris Clark.
I enjoyed watching the Oilers a hell of a lot more than I have watching the Texans. Yeah, they didn't win a Championship, but at least their offense was a lot more fun to watch.
