Interesting. I doubt that's the reason. Even if it was conditional then they could make the one offered conditional too to roll over, so if 2018 isn't given up then the knicks' will roll over to 2021.
Anyways I don't think that's a hold up. I also don't believe Morey is that attached to a future pick if it meant getting Melo. I think the Knicks just aren't interested in any of our picks / want more

 

Yeah I mean different teams different circumstances I guess. He's the 40th highest paid player in the league. The Knicks are trying desperately to get on the right track so getting a player they don't need whose contract is longer than Melos without sweet picks seems to set them back.

It seems to be inevitable that this trade will most definitely not happen before the season starts...but as long as Melo stays in NY that means he is not budging on expanding his teams to waive the NTC for, which is great news for us.

 

I remember when Phil got fired I was so disappointed. Everyone was talking Melo to Houston and with Phil running things we probably could have made a deal happen. He REALLY wanted Melo gone.

Last playoff he shot like crap, had 5 games in which he scored 4 points or less. That is terrible for 40th highest paid player in the league. 40th means he is expected to be one of the best 2nd best player on a team.
Fact is last off season GMs over estimated future cap increase and many screwed up their cap space. So now cap space is more valuable than ever. Which makes Ryno's contract look even worse.

It's a pretty bad contract. I think Eric Gordon and Nene were quite possibly the only good contracts signed by any team in 2016.

Melo is a professional, and will show up to camp and won't make any waves. The problem is though, the longer the Knicks hold out, the more comfortable Melo gets, and they could be back at square one, with him refusing to waive his no clause at all.

 

As soon as I typed that I knew somebody was going to bring up the superstars. I suppose I should have clarified non-superstars.
