They had to abandon the run pretty early in the game because of how far back they got. Shane had 1 more rush than Warren and Porter combined. It's hard to judge the RBs on this game however I thought it was already a weak unit coming into the season. We'll see how they do going forward.

I would rather see Texas take the ball at the start of the game if they win the coin toss instead of differ to the 2nd half. You'll guarantee you don't start your offense in a hole and feel the allure of going to the passing game. Take the ball, run it and let that setup play action and bootlegs. Keep the Corners honest.

I say that like I know what I'm talking about. You have to hope this team builds a lead this weekend. If that's the case, I hope they don't let up on the offense. It's not an issue of trying to rub it in. It's trying to get as much work in as possible before getting to the next part of the schedule.

Hopefully they'll learn a lot from their mistakes in prep for a loss to USC on the road. Hopefully that'll pinpoint weaknesses even further and allow them to test those adjustments against Iowa St.

It'll be really interesting to see how the new QB does. He runs a lot like Tim Tebow. He is big and takes guys on. He also has a strong arm for long passes and bullet passes in the middle of the field. Heard is also a great runner. The issue with both of them is accuracy. That's a big question.

They competed well. The QB lost them the game almost single handedly.

    • Texas QB Shane Buechele not practicing Wednesday, continuing to be evaluated.
    • Texas OC Tim Beck said, "We came out playing a little but not to lose."
    • "Everybody is embarrassed by it," Texas DC Todd Orlando said. "It's on me."
    • Orlando said he will play more guys on Saturday.
    • Beck said Texas didn't run the ball that much because the passing game was rolling, and he didn't want to upset the rhythm Buechele was in.
    • Todd Orlando singled out Texas CB Holton Hill for some praise and said he "saw some decent things" out of LB Malik Jefferson.
    • Orlando said he told the defense, "Let's not let this game define who we are."
    • Todd Orlando said the number of missed tackles by Texas was "probably in the 15-20 range. That's extremely high for us."
    • Texas OC Tim Beck: "I still love the offensive line. There were communication issues. It wasn't about talent, toughness or heart."

Usually the team meeting is a PR stunt for after the 4th loss

This week's game is a chance to claim improvement, but it means nothing. We will know for sure what we have when we play at the Coliseum.

Has there ever been a situation where a player's meeting has helped a team win games? Didn't help much for the Rockets in Dwight's last season.

    LOL.

    http://www.espn.com/college-footbal...s-first-year-coach-insane-complaining-players

Urban Meyer on excuses by first-year coaches: 'They're your players'

Ohio State coach Urban Meyer is tired of hearing first-year coaches complain about the players they inherit, saying it drives him "insane."

"It's like a new generation of excuse," Meyer told CBSsports.com. "[Texas coach Tom Herman] said, 'I can't rub pixie dust on this thing.' He got a dose of reality. Maryland just scored 51 points on you."

Meyer was referring to comments made by Texas coach Tom Herman -- a former assistant of Meyer's with the Buckeyes -- after the Longhorns' 51-41 home loss to Maryland on Saturday.

I could see a coach losing their team when they say something like that. Meyer is probably right on the coach speak aspect of it.

Yeah, I'm pretty glad I missed this game...tried to watch the replay on LHN yesterday but was totally disinterested so I went outside to play.

I'm not really sure how he got from Herman saying "I can't rub pixie dust on this thing" to Herman blaming the talent of the players. There are a lot of things wrong, and that seemed like an inclusive statement.

Agree - I'm not sure the connection is very direct. But I think Meyer's larger point is that it's your team, and to take responsibility for it. Herman's quote sounds like he's sort of blaming everyone else - ie, "they all sucked last year; it's not our fault and us coaches can't just come in and fix everything overnight". I don't think that was Herman's intent, but I can see how it could be perceived that way. But separate from that, I'm a bit surprised to see Meyer go after one of his former assistants like that.

Maybe if Herman didn't spend the off season clamoring about how they made chicken salad out of chicken parts at UH people wouldn't have expected him to turn the supposedly better recruits at UT into a semblance of a decent program.

He literally walked into UH and took Tony Levine's recruits and turned them into a top 10 program. Top 5 if he hadn't mailed it in twice. I don't understand why Herman doesn't understand what folks are expecting from him.

Urban has plucking top talent from the state for years now without much fight from the in-state schools. Don't think he wants to give it up that easily. Anthony Cook being the case in point, Urban and Herman are battling it out for the #1 recruit in Texas as we speak.

Wasn't Urban also pissed this summer that UT/Herman muscled in on his Houston area "camp"?

All true - but coaches recruit against each other all the time, and you still basically never hear a coach call out a fellow coach, let alone someone from their own coaching tree.
