I don't understand FTW's antipathy to JJ Watt. At all. The "Fatt" thing is especially absurd. Watt just raised all that money and FTW still spinning the hate. Did JJ not sign an autograph for FTW years back? Just makes no sense.
Wife and I made it out of Miami, but I have to say this in the nicest way possible, American Airlines is a terrible airline. So we got to the airport yesterday, wife has 2 dogs that weigh literally 3 lbs a piece. I had paid $125 for each one of them to fly with us + I bought first class seats. Grand total for all of it was about $1200 one way to houston since we dont know how long we're gonna be staying in Houston. Long story short, we wait over an hour to check in yesterday, I pay for the dogs at the counter and we walk in. As the plane was boarding they called my wife and I by name to the front and told us we couldn't board bc we had 2 dogs and the limit was 4 dogs for the entire flight. I was so polite and said ma'am there is a major emergency and we need to leave and our 2 dogs were in 1 carrier and took up no space. I had expensive tickets, I paid for the dogs, and yet they wouldn't let us board. So after all my pleading, we were turned away.....over a 3 lb dog. So we had to go home and wait and they put us on a flight today and although I paid for first class seats, they sat us in coach. Im not the type of person to pay for first class seats ever, but I wanted to just sit with the wife and our dogs so they wouldn't bother anyone. So yes american airlines turned us away over a 4 dog limit and a 3 lb yorkie. What a fantastic airline, I should have recorded this convo with the gate agent and the supervisor, they repeatedly said rules are rules and didn't care that a monster hurricane was going to destroy miami. Also I was shocked at how normal everything was back in my area when I got to houston. I have a place near the rice village and we went and grabbed dinner yesterday close by and it was almost like nothing happened. I dont know why I thought I was going to come home to a complete mess. So if I may ask, where is the bulk of the damage from Harvey?
Damn, that is so frustrating that it makes me almost want to call them a b**** them out for you. But to answer your question, the west side of town is still dealing with water due to the Addicks/Barker reservoirs. Whatever you do, avoid the highways/major streets on the west side of town. Absolute mess.
Almost every place in Houston that was in a 100/500 year floodplain took on flood waters. Those not near bayous, rivers or the reservoirs mostly did ok.
My moms house in west Houston still has water in it. Parts of pearland and friends wood on the bayous were devastated. 5th ward I hear is bad. Dickinson was bad. Shoreacres flooded bad. West Houston is terrible still. But yes there are a lot of places that just feel normal. Luckily I am one of those people as well. My poor mom tho
Basically Harvey either flooded your home or the home of multiple people you know. 30% of Harris County structures sustained water damage. That's a staggering number.
It's insane. my street flooded on Friday and 5 of 8 houses (all houses not on cement blocks) flooded very briefly that night and the water immediately went down so no evacuation was necessary. Just a bunch of confused tenants who cant get ahold of their landlords and people without flood insurance over here. But then people like my motherare waiting to see if their houses can be salvaged or not. Just insane. where are you at in regards to your house? I saw you evacuated
I live in GA, but far enough inland to not worry (Similar distance San Antonio is from the Gulf). I'm assuming my FIL intends on riding out the storm despite being East of Orlando (They waited out Matthew and lost power for a few days, but nothing too bad). All of the hotels in our area sold out. I-75N and Hwy 41N are both packed right now in our area, and we are 140 miles north of FL.
The Atlantic has cycles that spawn hurricanes that often follow similar tracks. In 2004 Florida got hit four times and we all know what happened in 2005.
I get a kick out of the millennials freaking out because there are three hurricanes at once, posting updates with #climatechangeisreal.
