Dreamer will come back in less than 3 years anyway with the next presidency. It all means very little...
DACA is very popular and sound policy, so I'm not sure what Trump's strategy here is. I guess he thinks that this will put the blame on Congress if they do not pass a new DACA-esqe policy, but in reality I think everyone is going to end up blaming Trump. If DACA was unconstitutional as executive order, let the courts strike it down instead of putting your already abysmal reelection chances even further in jeopardy. While no one is going to get deported because of this (tracking down and sending away 800K productive, law abiding residents was never going to be feasible or smart), it is a large setback in terms of the government's relationship with our immigrant population. The hope is that now that Congressional Republicans have gotten over their collective fever dream of saying "NO" to literally anything and everything Obama did, they will be able to craft something fair and reasonable. We saw how well that worked out with healthcare, so I'm not counting on it. Maybe in 2020 when the whole damned thing flips blue after 4 years of a clown show Democrats will be able to put something on the books for good regarding immigration (and of course promptly lose Congress again because the DEY TURK OUR JERBS crowd will show up en masse at midterms). [CITATION NEEDED]
From the article: One of the first things that comes out of the mouth of an immigrant—whether he is legal or illegal—is that “there is no future” for him in the country of his origin. What does it say about our world that so many people find themselves in countries where they have no hope or future to look toward? How do we help such people? Do we have a duty to help them? What would be helpful and what would only make things worse? The answers to these questions are complex because we are talking about human persons, individuals who are more than just working, eating and sleeping bodies. An attitude of “That’s their problem; we can’t be the police men of the world” serves no one. We do have a duty to help our fellow man, but we must do so prudently. The answers to the questions I raised above will require creative thinking and the willingness to hold in tension ideas that may on the surface look contradictory. We eat an elephant one bite at a time, or so the saying goes. So let’s begin with the issue at hand: DACA. DACA should stay. Chaput is right—deporting these people at this time in our national life would be poisonous to our civil discourse. Acts of compassion tend to bring a measure of healing to a frayed society. A legislative way should be found (get on it, Congress!) for those already enrolled and gainfully employed (no new enrollments!) to become legal residents with ability to work and live securely, but no citizenship. We must hold the tension between compassion and deterrence so others do not follow suit. In “The Conservative Heart” Arthur Brooks writes, “work, not money, is the fundamental source of our dignity. Work is where we build character. Work is where we create value with our lives and lift up our own souls. Work, properly understood, is the sacred practice of offering up our talents for the service of others.” So let them stay, and let them work. And let us work together swiftly to find creative answers to the questions I posed above, the questions at the heart of these issues. Sounds sensible.
Is it worse than our president saying there were "good people" who marched along side the self labeled white supremacists.
With all due respect, what on earth are you ranting about? Are you ranting about B-Bob's post, or my post? The girl in my post knew she was born in Mexico. It was no secret. And she was here legally as long as she was in school and in athletic competition. Consider taking a tranquilizer. It might help.
Has nothing to do with DACA. DACA was announced June 2012, and started Aug 2012. It only apply to those that enter the US prior to 2007. It seems as if you only read title of a tweet and not the actual article. The very article reference to another article where the part of the stats came from, and the reason fore the surge is outlined there as below. There are many reasons for the surge: --In El Salvador, people are fleeing a staggering level of violence that has made the country the murder capital of the world. It recorded a homicide rate of 104 people per 100,000 in 2015, the highest for any country in nearly 20 years, according to data from the World Bank. --In Honduras, violence has come down in recent years, with a 15% drop in homicides in 2015, meaning many people leaving there are seeking better economic opportunities in the United States. --In Guatemala, pockets of intense violence are driving some to the U.S. But Guatemalan officials said at the United Nations this week that their migrants are leaving mostly for economic reasons and should not be considered refugees.
Well there is a silver lining in the DACA repeal abomination http://thehill.com/homenews/administration/349332-gop-fears-damage-from-trumps-move-on-daca In 1994, incumbent Republican Gov. Pete Wilson made support for Proposition 187 a key element in his reelection campaign. That ballot initiative sought to bar illegal immigrants from using most state services and established a citizenship screening process. Proposition 187 passed by a wide margin and Wilson won a second term, but they were Pyrrhic victories. The episode is widely held to have fired up California’s growing Latino population and alienated them from Republicans for decades. Republicans have never won a Senate election in the state since, nor has a GOP nominee carried it in a presidential election
I stated this earlier but they are trying to find any justification to demonize these people. They want to create this amazingly ridiculous narrative that if they were in their shoes, they would have voluntarily displaced themselves into a country that they barely know the language of with no guarantees of reentry. I mean... you can laugh so much before it starts depressing you that people who can articulate in complete sentences can actually hold such asinine beliefs.
LOL, you should do a better job of stalking people that embarrass you in political discussions because apparently you are either coming up with information that is 15 years old or that is flat out inaccurate......not that it would help you in your pathetic attempts at discussing politics. I would suggest you stalk less and read more. It might make you a less pathetic person
Look at all those countries you listed. Amazing list, B-Bob. I'm certain no toddler has ever looked for work, but I'm certain that parents of toddlers have.
If a parent has ill gotten gains from criminal activity (say they are an embezzler or tax evader) and has used some of that money to buy their kid a Ferrari, should the kid be allowed to keep the Ferrari? Wouldn't taking it away be punishing the kid for the criminal activity of the parent? Deportation of illegal immigrants is not punishing the child for the actions of the parent, it is a return to the status quo. What you are proposing is that the fruits of ongoing unlawful activity should be passed along to children of lawbreakers so long as the children did not willfully participate in the lawbreaking.
