Because you can't unless you marry a citizen. You would have to leave the country and then they might not let you back in. No matter what happens someone will be pissed. If you let them stay people who waited and got visas will be mad because they feel they were screwed. Some citizens might be pissed because the dreamers took their jobs. On the other hand the current dreamers were bough in illegally by their parents. Its not like they chose to break the laws. Also this is the place they grew up in. They might not even speak the language of the country they grew up in. I think we should just be looking at it from a practical point of view. They are here. Its going to be hard to deport 800k people. They are functioning members of society what is the point of wasting resources trying to send them back. Most Likely they will go into hiding which causes its own set of problems. I mean how many of them want to go back to Mexico or another Latin American country? BTW even though they are ending the program Dreamers can get a 2 year extension so there is some hope. If they can influence enough people they might be able to flip the house and senate and they might have a chance of getting a legislative solution.
I expect that the republicans will block any clean Dreamers legislation. They will instead try to force other things on it like payment for the wall. Then the true moral picture of the republican party will be further exposed... blackmailing the American people to get an unpopular boondoggle passed.
From my experience of having my entire family immigrating you are full of bullshit but that's nothing new. I've met very few like you described and the reason why who ever holds this notion is just stupid is the ones who enter legally and go through 'the right way' do so because they have the avenues and means to do it. That's all. My parents were born to wealth in Bangladesh. They had access to the best private schools in the country and hence were able to apply to US colleges and receive a student visa. My parents very well know that 98% of Bangladeshi citizens just simply don't have that avenue.
Any type of amnesty program, and yes the "Dreamer" BS is an amnesty program, should be attached to legislation that will help seal the border and help prevent the problem from getting worse in the future due to the BS amnesty program. A physical border won't completely stop the problem, but it's a step in the right direction. If you don't seal the border and prevent future illegals from getting in, then you are only incentivising illegal immigration with this program which is obviously a stupid idea.
I view this similar to a government shutdown or debt ceiling debate. There will be a lot of noise, but if Dems stand firm, they'll ultimately pass this standalone. It might be different if Trump had done this on Day #1, but there's no way the GOP wants to be accused of kicking out hundreds of thousands of kids in March of an election year. That's the kind of thing that will lead to a summer of attack ads.
Yeah.....I'm sure those attack adds will really make Democrats not vote for Republicans....which they weren't going to do anyway. I'm not sure I see a valid threat here. That said, if they fail to get a border wall, fail to repeal Obamacare, and pass an amnesty bill.....Republicans won't be voting for Republicans.
Actually, it won't "save the country billions." Read the post I quoted below. It shows how ending DACA and tossing these young people out of the USA will cost this country a huge amount, not save money. You might notice that the info is from 4 different sources. Kudos to NewRoxFan for posting it.
Dreamers face long odds with GOP Congress http://thehill.com/latino/349331-dreamers-face-long-odds-with-gop-congress
You just provided evidence of job creation, however many billions it cost that money will be paid to American immigration, boarder patrol, homeland security and law enforcement personnel, as well as ancillary and auxiliary personnel necessary to aide in the deportation. The larger the projected, cost the better for the unemployment rate
Oh I fully agree with Cornyn - there's 0% chance they deal with it this month. But I think it will be dealt with next winter/spring. Too many major players have come out in fairly blunt language saying kicking them out is unethical, etc. The ads write themselves, and can rely 100% on GOP words. The Steve Kings of the world are irrelevant in this because Trump will back it. The GOP leadership in the spring is also going to be in desperate need of a legislative win, even if it only brings half the party along. At best, the only thing they'll have accomplished is tax cuts.
No, that "cost" he's referring to is not enforcement costs. It's costs to the economy from lost consumers, disruption to businesses from lost labor, etc.
Or we can keep them in the country and still provide jobs.... just the regular ole jobs that come with population growth..... while growing the tax base. Seems like my way is better for economic growth and revenue long term. Deporting folks may provide a dubious temporary bump, but I prefer long term growth.
I want to added my 2 cents since i am an immigrant and this issue greatly affected my family. This is all about what is right and wrong, not what feels right. I want to stress about fairness and order and not about what FEELS right; I have many family members, whom after finished their degree or waited their turn in the lottery, cant come or stay in the US because they are following the laws, why are they being punish for following the laws? This is a slap in a face for all the people who plays by the rules. If we let this groups of people stay then why should other people bother to follow the rules is there going to be an end? when is the cut off point? I belive this will lead to a slippery slope that it will be hard to recover from.
How petty do you have to be to believe this punishes legal migrants. Dear lord... How are people who were brought here not from their own will at fault here? How are people who only know this place as home, who can barely speak the language of the country you want to deport them to at fault here? It seems as if you are the one succumbing to irrational 'feels'. Rationally you wouldn't blame these people. And rationally you wouldn't be butt hurt and believe this somehow magically affects your family and legal migrants.
It doesn't. It's pure bs. 90% of my family legally immigrated here and I've never heard them b****ing about illegal migrants. They always knew they were the more fortunate ones. I guess my family just has more empathy than this dude.
