fair enough, all good points. You're right, Les' business might have been unsavory, but he may get a bit of a pass since most fans don't have a firsthand experience with his products. I hope he goes down as a great owner.
That and his politics, whatever they are, have nothing to do with what we think of the guy. I've written about his background before. Do a search if you're interested.
I respect your opinion, Nook, but still disagree and remain worried. I hope Fertitta cares more about Houston than he does Galveston or Kemah. The guy been a one man wrecking ball when it comes to history. History may not matter much to some people, but it matters to me. Turning Kemah into a big theme park still has me pissed off.
I haven't lived in Houston since 1987 and, to my knowledge, have never eaten at any of Fertitta's restaurants, but here's something to keep in mind when talking about restaurant food quality: Whether it matters or not depends wholly on what your target audience is. Not everyone is capable of distinguishing between really good food and mediocre crap, and both kinds of restaurants can be successful business. I think Olive Garden and Cheesecake Factory serve terrible food, and I honestly wouldn't eat at either even if my meal was free (yes, seriously). But not only are those two chains successful, millions of people actually LOVE their food. Just because someone thinks Fertitta's food quality is lacking doesn't mean that other people don't think it's the best thing they've ever eaten.
The team will be profitable long term simply by existing. No owner is selling at a loss. Not a single one. Maybe you should do some thinking before telling the rest of us what we know.
So you ran in here with a doomsday post about his character disguised as a condemnation of how he will perform on he job, rather than an actual critique of how he will actually perform on the job. "I don't like him" isn't exactly hard hitting evidence about how it will go with him as owner.
So now we got the food hipsters who don't like him because he doesn't serve artisinal food in his restaurants?
And what are you going to do about it? Worry on cfans? Put down 2 billion if you that worried about it, none of us can change anything so the only thing we can do is hope.... Like we always do when the offseason comes and we hope to be better the upcoming year.... So many people here worried about things they can't change... We are fans, we want the team to be good... We want the team to be the best.... But we can't force New York to trade Melo and we can't force a richer person to buy our team.... This man had the money and he bought it.... Now let's hope for the best...
What on earth does that even mean? I have strong opinions about Fertitta and I've posted them before. Those opinions have nothing to do with his eateries or his impact on UH sports. I'm not "disguising" anything. I've been very upfront about the guy. You are welcome to have a different opinion about the man, since we are here to give our opinions, but please don't start making things up out of thin air.
Tad Brown already said that he will facilate the deal to some one that will want the success of the franchise. Don't you think it was talked about the direction of what Tillman will do with the team? and ya are worried about nothing we can do about lol. Relax and let's see where the dominos fall
actually no, and this is imo the main worry. he has financed the team's purchase because he has nowhere near $2.2B liquid. so now he's entirely unable to stomach operating losses, even for a year or two, in order to make those regular payments with interest. not exactly an ideal situation if you're a fan. couple this with the terrible outlook for gaming and the restaurant industry and i see this team being put back up on the market within 5 years again.
You are right. As the market has been in recent history we will be profitable by simply existing. Let's hope Tilman wants more for this team than to 'simply exist.' And like you said that is "long term." Thing is, we have Harden, Cp3, possibly Melong etc. right now. Will he spend on luxury taxes and contract extensions? Considering he just spent 71% of his net worth (not liquid assets) on the team, we have reason to be uneasy. It is what it is and I can't do anything about it, I just hope rox fans can see this from an unbiased perspective so when/if we start making cost saving decisions it won't come as a complete shock.
