Was reading writers earlier saying it was always iffy that he'd accept deal to HOU. Made it clear he'd accept CHI or LA. Won't be at all surprised if he ends up either of those places.
I don't really understand the refusal to come to Houston... you don't have to stay forever... just the next few months and then April - October 2018... with a couple of good shots to win a WS...
Now McCosky saying deal could have fallen apart because Astros pulled back part of offer. Sounds like spin to me. Screw the Tigers and Verlander.
This is definitely spin--Verlander had the opportunity to be a hero for a city looking for some good news and a championship. His family could have stayed in DET until after the season. This just reeks of a prima donna who runs from the fire instead of towards it (like a Texan would). P.S. I'm pissed! I was advocating for this trade, but maybe this will be a blessing in disguise and the entire team will get pissed off with me!!
No, because his story changes every 5 minutes. If he doesn't really know then he should shut his face until he does.
I can't even begin to imagine the amount of hate Lunhow would receive if he really did get cold feet.
He's under contract for a few more years, and if he were to opt-out in the offseason, it's unclear what he might get in a new contract. The whole reason he has a no-trade option is so that he can control where he lives. It sucks he doesn't want to be in Houston, but that's his right. It would have been nice if he made that clear up front, but he may have been trying to use his rights for leverage (accepting option, rejecting option, etc), which is a player's perogative.
