So T-Mobile is doing the Buy 1 Get 1 Free deal with their new Galaxy Note 8 phones tomorrow. I was thinking of doing the deal for myself, using the "free" one, then selling the full-price one online for next-to-full retail value so the phone would theoretically be free.

The thing is, I don't have any experience selling on eBay, and have fears that I would spend nearly $1,000 on a phone but will be unable to sell it because I don't have any feeback on my eBay account. I also worry that I will struggle to sell the phone on Craigslist and also worry that I will get robbed or some ****.

What do you guys think? Is it even worth going for this deal?

Is it unlocked or only for T-Mobile? Keep in mind that eBay charges a 10% fee, plus PayPal charges ~4%. And I doubt you'd get next-to-full retail value since I'm sure a lot of people are thinking the same thing. You could probably end up getting the phone at a decent discount (50%), but would be tough getting full value unless you got super lucky and found a sucker.

You'd be better off finding a friend with T-Mobile to go in on it with you so you both get it for half price with no hassles involved.

    Ebay:

    1) Since you have no feedback, you will take a hit. A lot of people, especially experienced ones wont bid on your listing and even the final price will be lower than what could have been if you had a good feedback.

    2) You will be paying about 20% of the final bid price as ebay and paypal fees.

    3) Since its ebay and you have no feedback, you are very very susceptible to getting scammed as a seller. Paypal has plenty of protection for buyers but as a seller, well, you are pretty much screwed should your final bidder end up being a thief.

    Craigslist:

As long as you proceed with your transaction and meetup in a public place like a Starbucks or in front of a bank, you are good. However, craigslist has a much lower audience than ebay. Expect very slow responses and most of the responses to be scammers that will ask you to ship etc. Under no circumstance sip or accept any online payment via craigslist. Cash in person deals only. Also, generally avoid dealing with kids. You should be able to gauge your craigslist buyer by talking to them on phone before meeting up.

An alternative would be to find another person/friend that wants on the phone deal and you guys can split the cost/profit.

This is rather tame jacoby thread. What happened to the days of asking advice on how to do heroin, how to bike across America, how to get married "for the luls", or how to cripple yourself financially to get a Tesla?

    1) I'm off the heroin.
    2) For budget purposes (Tesla fund) I couldn't finance my cross-country bike trip. I did buy myself a pretty sick bike, though.
    3) The girl pussied out.
    4) My Model 3 should arrive before next summer. Very excited.

You should check the T&C's with TMobile. If you think you're going to walk into Tmobile on a single line and they will hand you two phones, think again.

So in other words, you will need to activate a new line, pay the monthly service until you get the card and the equipment installment plan while waiting 4-8 weeks for your prepaid MasterCard reimbursement. After paying 2-4 monthly bills on the new line, the activation fees, seller fees, depreciation, you might net $400-$500.

If you choose to go on this endeavor, sell the phone on Swappa.
