Love that the Abbott, Trump, and Pence can't stop congratulating themselves on how well they responded......lol. Pence actually mention victims (trying to clean up after Trump). Just because you were not totally incompetent, doesn't mean you deserve congrats. You don't hear local official doing congrats, just trying to help people.
Is this really happening? People are price gouging on water? Seems like it's not that widespread, but any stores pulling that crap are some real scumbags. IMO that's not much better than looting.
Anyone know where gas is inside the loop? Say open gas stations but they only had diesel. Need 92 octane min
if you don't raise prices along with a surge in demand, you get shortages and hoarding (people buying more than they need) gas shortages were entirely predictable
It seemed like a lot of houstonians helping houstonians. I saw a ton of volunteers doing stuff at grb not government officials. I saw thousands of people bringing stuff in bags. We had so much stuff people didn't know what to do. The red Cross did bring in the cots. We set them up. It was just volunteers organizing themselves. On the news I saw a lot of people in boats helping others. Unlike Katrina it wasnt people saying where is the government? Cleaning up will require massive government funds. I am guessing the flood insurance agency is out of money. I hope they step up for that.
I know a route is open from West Columbia to Sweeny but no idea how to get to west columbia from the loop with the Brazos cresting. This is obviously true but to be fair NOLA is a far inferior city with far inferior people.
Yesterday I drove down 288 to Lake Jackson and took 332 to Brazoria. I didn't drive that last little stretch, (went south on 36 from Brazoria) but appears that 36 is open between Brazoria and west columbia. I guarantee you it is clear to the intersection of 36 and 332 from Houston to Brazoria, and it appeared clear North from there. There are several truck stops on 288 with plenty of gas, too.
People freaking out about gas and running to fuel their tanks is shorting supply. Like what happened with all the water bottles. There is no physical shortage of gas. Social media hysteria at it again
I live near downtown, but I had been working out near passedena beforehand, so I went south on 45 to BW8, and around BB8 to 288. Is 288 closed inside the loop? I know the entire southern half of bw8 is open between 59/69 on the west, and 225 to the east. I've also taken 45 south from @ U of H to Dickenson (open well past that) and 59 from Kirby going south to Hungerford out past Rosenberg (where the road closes). As stated, no issues on 288 between bw8 and lake Jackson, either.
Yeah, it's screwed here in Austin atm too... Both my cars are low too, haha I'm not waiting in line though
DriveTexas, brazoria county, and even local pd's have been overstating lots of these closures. FM 521 & 524 was supposed to be underwater, it wasn't. Hwy 36 north supposed to be blocked off, none of which true this morning. I know someone drove from west columbia to brenham and back today on 36. I think they're overstating all the closures to keep people from going back to evacuated areas.
