Lance McCullers @ Frisco: 5 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, BB, 2 K, 60 pitches (39 strikes) Forrest Whitley is now in for Corpus.
Daz Cameron is 2-3 tonight for Quad Cities; both of his hits are doubles, and he also stole his 32nd base of the season.
Ah. I wonder why they pushed it back a day. Was supposed to play Friday (obviously that's not happening) but now they're saying maybe Sunday or Monday. Hope he didn't have a set back
As the first man out of the Corpus bullpen, Forrest Whitley went 2.1 innings and allowed a run on 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 5. In 88 innings across 3 levels this season, Whitley has 34 walks and 137 strikeouts.
Nook's been great about filling in the personal/personnele side of the organization but there's still not one guy in the system I'm more curious about than Daz at this point. As he's said, it doesn't add up that he hasn't been promoted since his recent run of success. I really would like some in depth piece on what's been going for him, how the org has dealt with/viewed his struggles, how they view his turn around and what's the path forward now. He still strikes me as a found money/lotto ticket type at this point rather than anything resembling a top prospect.
I think they want to build his confidence up with an extended period of established success, especially after a rough start to his pro career. I still think he should have gotten a few games in BC.
I get that logic but it's counter to their MO. They typically like to have their better (/and successful) prospects get their feet wet at the level they're going to start at the next season. Daz is hitting now so something's up.
It could be as simple as Daz and his hitting coach working together. They have made great progress after Daz's slow start. The point of minor leagues is development. Daz is developing nicely, so why the sad faces
Going back and looking at comments from the beginning of this thread. The article on MLB.com with quotes from an Astros scout sure seemed prescient. It called the breakouts of Alvarez and Cameron and accurately predicted successful seasons for F Perez, C Perez and Ferrell.
Here's a video of Whitley warming up last night. My goodness, the length/extension he has is such a weapon, he also hides the ball quite well.
Might be a roster issue. They have Dawson, Benedetti, and Wrenn in the OF with Alvarez splitting his time in the OF as well. I'd rather have Daz get every day playing time. He needs the at bats.
