Joel Osteen Says He Didn't Open His Church for Shelter From Harvey Because Nobody Asked Him To http://splinternews.com/joel-osteen-says-he-didnt-open-his-church-for-shelter-b-1798623154
I hate being on this side of the argument, because that guy makes me cringe pretty hard. And have to admit I enjoyed it when the social pressure got to him, realizing tweeting prayers wasn't going to cut it, watching him squirm when those buses of evacuees (with dogs!) piled into his church, the video of him not knowing the cnn camera was on before the interview started & he was visibly mad.. but man I wish instead of framing it as being evil/illegal not to instantly hand over the keys if the persecution squad can prove what you have is accessible, and center the spectrum to frame the other rich guys as doing so much more, just being that great relative to someone like him. Not that Mattress mac and the sports team owners "had" to do what they did, but that they went so much further above and beyond, gives them more credit if it's not something you "have" to do, in my mind.
Rev. Osteen can't help with the flood people because he's saving his money to buy the Rockets for Jesus.
You do realize that what you are doing is no better than arguing with a drunk? Or a Lin fan? "What we have here is...failure to communicate. Some men you just can't reach."
lol "is a coward if he doesn't donate at least his salary to the troops", good to know at least some of them are not being serious, but that's the kind of crap that pisses me off... he doesn't have to do anything. Praise & be grateful to those who do, instead of shaming everyone who doesn't. Otherwise it comes off as not appreciating what they do, because it's clear you expect it of them, they have to.
I honestly don't care what Mattress Mac or any other celebrity does. Much respect for what they do. Nobody is stating what Olsteen did or didnt do is illegal. Its also has nothing to do what other religious centers have or havent done. Property preaching is immoral and borderline evil. He rakes in 10's of millions of dollars a year, much which comes from struggling people because he's convinced them to give money to his church so "God can bless them materialistically". His contribution are prayers and directions to shelters, and opening up his offering plate to receive charitable donations. Mattress Mac did the opposite. He did not ask for money and open his doors to those in need. Morally speaking, he should be at the front line helping the city that has made him a multimillionaire.
Keep your donations private, James. That way the haters can surface and you know who they are, but you still did some good so you can feel good.
Agree that he doesn't have to do anything, but it is a VERY bad look to not donate a large amount when you're the city's highest paid athlete of all time and just signed a 200+ mil extension. Doesn't he have any PR agents?
Yeah bad PR move for sure. Can't be good for the J.Harden brand business. I just don't like the idea of us going down the list of rich people/celebrities in rank order, making sure everyone donated proportional to their net worth.
I'm tired of people thinking these celebrities and athletes need to be donating X amount related to how much they make or they should be donating because they have millions. They don't have to do anything especially post it on IG or Twitter every time they do make a donation. They aren't obligated to. Be grateful for the ones that have.
ever since harden arrived to Houston, he's been supporting young women in achieving their dreams of finishing college, sometimes single mothers. that deserves an applause.
Now's the time to do what the voices in your head tell you, Joel. ...Except for the voice that tells you to "kill them all"
