You know the next thing he'll be doing is giving away furniture. lol. He seems to be a good dude -- you can never tell nowadays, but I've always admired the guy. Seems to bust his butt and stay down-to-earth despite being rich.
Believe me, what you see is what you get. Mack is the type of person everybody should be aspiring to be, the type we would want our kids to be when we talk to them about making the world a better place. He believes in good acts due to their intrinsic nature and a sense of obligation, not due to any sort of secondary gain or publicity.
I went to volunteer at a couple of places today and they said don't want volunteers anymore. They don't want more stuff because they had too much. Houstonians are seriously stepping up.
The weather is so nice now. This is the houston I remember growing up. But because of the overpopulation, millions of cars driving in and around Houston every day for prolonged periods due to traffic jams...it has gotten unbearable. The heat and humidity is unforgiving. Not only that, but the oil drilling is damaging the ecosystem. Before the US imported most of its oil and saved its own, but now Texas provides a third of it. They drill like crazy and won't stop. All of this contributes to the humidity issue which is what makes it feel like we live in a swamp. Tomorrow all of the plants will open up and everyone will start driving and working again and this will be gone in no time. It is sad I cannot go out at night without sweating from the humidity. I 100% support electric cars. Make Houston great.
Lakewood was pretty much overwhelmed with donations and volunteers last night. It was amazing to see the amount donated.
Lol are they really dipping in Houstons disaster relief funds 1 day after the hurricane? And by dip I mean seize it all.
Mac is the man. My best friend who is in HFD and was out rescuing people said that when they would bring people to the shelters Mac was out there helping the evacuees and instructing crews where to go. Said he was amazed to see someone of his wealth doing the things he was doing. I hope everyone is safe. I was heartbroken today helping a close friend clean out his house. He lost everything and has a 2 year old daughter. Just terrible. Now I smell and need to take a shower.
Same story for me. We checked in with multiple locations. Almost frustrating in a sense that you want to put your heart into helping out and you just can't do it because all the other awesome citizens beat you to it, lol. My wife ended up "helping out" from home with a locally owned shop in Tomball that sells women's clothing and basically ended up counting and organizing the "Houston Strong" t-shirt orders that had been made online. 3,000, btw, and it's a pretty small shop.
Piney Point area may get additional flooding since Buffalo Bayou is going to rise by about 10 inches but quiet other than that.
Water finally receded enough for me to leave my house today. Left to costco to buy water and donate to Gallery Furniture on 99 and said they had more than enough. Tried a couple other places and they had more than enough as well. Pretty crazy to think that so many people donated supplies so quickly. Wish I was able to get out sooner to help out.
I live in dallas and gas stations are running out of gas. Mind you, that is a very small inconvenience compared to what Houston is going through. Hope all of you are safe and ok
There's a lot of stuff coming out of donations from Dallas, too. (I know, I know...) But it's still amazing everyone is turning away donations already because they have more than enough. Great to hear. Now let's hope that mess stirring in the Gulf doesn't screw whatever sense of happiness that's managed to muster today.
Just finished cutting out 24" of dry wall all over my house. Discovered more flooded items, now out a microwave, freezer, washer (I ****ing needed that washer right now), about 60% of my furniture. Glad I have a chance to go back home though. Gonna be working for months to get things back to normal. Oh yeah, I don't have flood insurance lol
I'm thinking plenty of people will need help rebuilding. I definitely want to do what I can to help out in rebuild projects. I'll definitely be in touch with organizations once they start mobilizing.
