LOL...they still have a 11.5 game lead in the division. Come on now. Their largest lead was 17. Dramatic, much?
To me this team cratered mentally when we did a big nothing at the deadline. They stopped believing in themselves and are no longer having fun. Any thoughts of magically turning this around is probably misdirected. I hope I am wrong, but I don't think so.
I think women have a much better outlook. My wife will jump up and down when they win, and if they lose, every time without fail, it's, "Oh,well, they'll get the next one." Every time. It's tough to understand that mentality when you're so ready to just break everything in your room after a particularly bad loss. Maybe the women are on to something.
Absolutely. If it was an individual experiencing this complete, devastating turnaround in such a short time, I'd be very concerned that they had experienced a massive bout of depression. That's what the team looks like: depressed. Since the All Star Break, but really especially since Correa went down. Having dealt with depression for freaking ever, I know what it looks like. However, this is a group of individuals. If a person broke a bone in their foot (roughly the baseball equivalent of losing Correa), they'd be hobbled and annoyed and maybe slightly down for a while, but unless that foot was completely critical to them performing their job, they'd just soldier through until it was healed. They wouldn't fall to pieces over being at 85% for 6 weeks. That's what the team has done, though. Really, it's more like the team is a surefire valedictorian that suddenly started smoking pot heavily and had a complete change in their attitude, focus, and drive and lost their number one spot (at least) in their senior year.
Your wife's real passion is the ongoing female competition of outdoing what other women are doing and worrying about what other women think as if the victor gets anything of relevance. That catty ish gets very emotional
I think they started playing mediocre when the lineup and rotation became mediocre. Half the damn team hit the DL over a 2 month span. When they get healthy, if the can produce at 75% of what they were the last time they were healthy, we'll be fine. But get people back before declaring they stopped believing in themsleves.
My position remains the same. Making the playoffs has to be the first step for this group of guys. Get some experience. Close the gap. But I am not as down on the finish as most, as without our cleanup and without our #3, I mean, that's gonna set u back. I still believe this group will push hard in the playoffs and will not lay down. We need to see where we are, and who knows, we may be the big Boys on the block. Probably not, but this is our first test run with this group. But too, it's why I was not a proponent of the Beltran signing as we are too young for him to be around when it counts.
Astros will finish closer to 90 than 100. Major 180 There's still talent so playoffs can surprise, ala '95
The offense has disappeared. Its the biggest difference between the team that was playing at a .700 clip and now.
It's really incredible how many setbacks this team has faced in the second half, both on the field and now off, and yet they are still comfortably ahead in their division. Just get to the playoffs healthy. That's it. And then anything can happen.
790 reports Correa will make two rehab starts before being activated Sunday vs NYM. And Gurriel's x-rays were negative - he's day-to-day.
Tons of injuries, some bad luck, natural disasters, and an extremely disappointing trade deadline have pushed the team into a pretty serious rut. Like someone else said, they are definitely not the same team they were earlier in the season. I don't know if they can get it back or not. They don't look like they are having fun, and I think they fed off of that earlier in the year. They clearly wanted a big move at the deadline, and what they got instead were two bad relief pitchers. And now they are getting spanked again by the Rangers! It's not a good look.
Let august be over with. Very bad month of baseball, they couldn't find the balance, when SP was good, the bullpen or offense didn't come through and on and on plus the big injuries. Every team has a bad month. Time to win september and october.
