Looks like we are past the worst. Kudos to all Houstonians, other Texans and all others who traveled long distances risking their lives to help out. I just got back from about 4+ hours of volunteer service. It was amazing to see people of all different backgrounds, social status, cultures etc. come together and help each other out. The Houston Community showed the world that it is on a different level
If you could only pick 1 to 3 charities to donate money, which ones would you pick? What does Houston need the most right now?
is it just me, or does American Red Cross not have much of a visible presence commensurate with their reputation?
Thanks. We all have to do our little bit to help the community. That is how we come out stronger and go through this. I had no flooding, no evacuation, no issues. I had no excuse not to assist. It is the least I could do. Also your $500 donation helps. Anything coming from the heart helps.
You know, They're running tons of the shelters around town right now. Unless you mean something else.
This whole thing has been crazy... even crazier to think that many of us in town have walked away relatively unscathed while those just a few miles in any direction have been completely devastated. It's hard to wrap your head around. God speed to everyone out there suffering, helping, volunteering, etc. In face of incredible, historic adversity we are showing what it means to be a real houstonian.
Yeah its crazy and sad. Water got close to entering my house but never did and I hear/see houses that had water enter maybe no farther than a street away. I hate that I couldn't help those around me.
It goes up and down throughout the day, but I would think it should be dropping soon. The problem is that much of what you're seeing as a drop I think is also with them dumping water into subdivisions. It's really barely budged, but hopefully that should change soon.... I hope....
It hasn't gone down a single reading since this started; until the 18:15 reading. I have the USGS data right here.
Regardless of one's religious affiliation (or lack thereof), Catholic Charities is consistently ranked as one of the top charitable organizations in the USA. https://catholiccharities.org/donate-now-and-help-our-neighbors-recover-from-disaster/
