He is tired of co-running a team.

I suspect Les's divorce stemmed from his time and effort with the team and not enough with his ex-wife. The divorced caused a financial loss as well as made Leslie Alexander reconsider his life and priorities. Les was and is one of the best owners in the history of professional sports franchises.

This is only the beginning. I think Les will continue doing this sort of stuff behind the scenes. The public donation shows you care and this builds a momentum publicly so that others might follow suit. The private donations he'll make and we'll never know about will show how much he cares. And I think he cares a lot. But if you get too generous publicly, donation people will hound you for the rest of your life. Smart man. Incredible donation.

Not surprised at all. Eggball Texans are just here to loot money of the uneducated low IQ folks in the city (see bobbythefail). They do NOT care about the city of Houston one bit. They only donate for free publicity and to show a fake image of "Look I care for the city". And all the dumbass fat, cream soda guzzling, big mac gulping couch potatoes will fall for it

    F them.

Rockets OTOH have always done a lot for the city. Right from Dream to Yao to even Dwight who was here just for a short time. Uncle Les has always done more for the city of Houston than all the other sports teams here COMBINED

Les doesn't want to be out donated!

Putting JJ Watt to shame lol

In all seriousness, it is fantastic to see so many donations coming in from all over the country

Uncle Les struggling financially and yet puts out $10 MILLION

Meanwhile, ****** JJ Fatt puts out a meagre $100k and the delusional, low IQ, obese eggball fans fall for that honey donation

Uncle Les is the real hero of Houston!!

More than what you can ask of anyone.

But I'm starting to wonder if something is wrong with him health-wise

Hopefully DD is willing to spend a nickel on the Rockets now.

In all seriousness, we're gonna miss Les when he's no longer owning the team. :(

Wow. Les going all in for the City of Houston. Kudos, Mr. Alexander!

Putting his generosity aside for a moment, I'm extremely worried about the possibility of Addicks and Barker dams failing.

They were both constructed in the mid-1940's to control Buffalo Bayou flooding after a 1935 or '36 flood that inundated Downtown Houston. Now the earthen berms are about 70+ years old. For many years, there's been talk about strengthening them, but as ever, the money was hard to come by. Now the water has over topped part of Addicks (where the berm is over 100 feet high) and water is now hitting neighborhoods with thousands of residents who thought they were going to escape the flooding, but now are suddenly having to evacuate.

The problem is water entering the flood plain held back by the dams faster than the water can be released. That's still happening. And if the berm(s) collapses? Catastrophe will take on an entirely new meaning. A huge amount of water will hit Downtown and those areas between Addicks (and Barker, if it were to fail) will be in enormous trouble. Not the place to put this, but everyone in Houston needs to be aware that this is a real possibility. Check Hangout of more info here at the BBS. The main thing is to keep informed anyway you can.
