Def not today, tomorrow stay in the hotel until checkout and then maybe...the storm is passing but it wont stop raining for days. Your most viable chance is after tomorrow, but keep checking. I am no expert on this as it is my first tropical storm, but there are still flooded roads as the storm has not quite finished crossing houston. You do not want your car to get flooded and get stranded.
Absolutely, that's why I always preface it with "when the roads are drivable." I know this might be 4-5 days before I can even really go anywhere. I'm talking mainly about a "when the smoke clears" situation. Because someone might need help moving their stuff from the 2nd floor back to the 1st floor. Or they don't have their replacement vehicle yet, but they need a ride to the store or something. We know the news will keep this as a big story for the next few days, but then like most disaster stories, we'll be relegated to the back pages. So, if anyone needs help once a 2011 Toyota Camry can actually make it around Houston, PM me and let me know. Even if it's a few weeks from now- because recovery is going to take a while for some.
The extra crazy thing is places that have never flooded are flooding. This is some 500-Year stuff. Common belief was the world was flat 500 years ago.
So when they say "voluntary evacuation" in these Sugar Land areas is it suggested that these people evacuate? Does it mean there will be water in the homes but not deep?
So, I'm not an expert either, but once a hurricane hits land and lowers in categories at below 1 it is a tropical storm which doesn't mean much since the ratings for cat 1 can be 74 mph winds and tropical storm is below that at 73 mph (these winds are not reflective of how fast the storm is moving, but what wind gusts can occur at). Unfortunately Harvey is slow moving due to the fronts H/L pressure and just isn't moving like has happened with previous storms (I'm pretty sure on this, since in the past they left the area and broke up a lot quicker) Anyway tl;Dr, if you've been through any hurricane passed the coast you've been in a tropical storm, it just depends how fast it moves through the area. In Sugar Land, the expectation is that streets will flood, but not necessarily homes. However, if you decide to stay, be prepared to be stuck inside for the rest of the week.
I'm thinking it means if you're unprepared to ride it out, possibly on roof and you can make safe exit go (especially elderly/sick etc), then to add I think they don't exactly know the full extent so they're trying to cover themselves "well we said voluntary". That's what I'm hoping for everyone, streets are all that floods now and no more crazy rising water, this thing hit a lot harder than I expected (well probably most people).
In dallas right now after making a drive to get closer since flights in and out of Houston were cancelled til further notice. Reasons aside of needing to get back to Houston, okay to head back now? Just need to get to 45/spring cypress and as of now I know 45 south is closed at 1960.
