Officials say it takes water 12 hours to flow from Barker and Addicks Reservoirs to downtown. The controlled releases will increase flooding downtown, but they can't risk the dams breaking.

If you don't have a lot of money yourself right now the best thing you can do is encourage others to donate and find other ways to raise money. Houston will need a lot of help but I wouldn't go to Houston for at least a few weeks unless you have training and / or resources such as a boat. The waters will take a a few days to recede and it will be a mess for awhile. Adding more people to the situation won't help. After a few weeks when things settle down a lot of people will need help with basic things like stripping out drywall and carpet and cleaning, disenfecting and drying out their homes. It would probably be best to hook up with a group like a church that is doing that sort of work. There is a thread started about this and maybe we can set up something through Clutchfans.

Unfortunately don't think I could transport a boat from Sydney to Houston. Thankfully the Army did get me accustomed to doing the jobs that not everyone likes to do, so stripping drywall sounds like something up my alley. Could you please link me to the thread that's already set up? I had a quick look but couldn't see it. Thanks @rocketsjudoka
Where are they showing the neighborhoods? I live near enough to Bear Creek that I'm trying to figure out if we should leave.
Here's the good news: dry air should cut off some of the inflow access on the southwest side of the system to the west of the "last" feeder band. Now the bad news: Harvey f*cks it up by reaching the GOM in a few hours and refilling on moisture.
If we get another 20 inches like they are saying around medical center or north macgregor it will be beyond catastrophic. I can't believe that bayou filled on the east side of 288

My house is ****ed probably. It's in a subdivision off dixie farm road. Neighbor told me a few hours ago the water was halfway to the front door.

I just saw that one of my friend's elderly father was rescued from his house by Channel 13. He still lives on the same block that I grew up just off of Buffalo Speedway in the Braes Heights neighborhood.
