Bear creek is going to be under water. If i lived there I'd try to get out asap. It's going to be very bad. They're showing the neighborhoods right now that will be flooded and they're saying several thousands of homes could be flooded for WEEKS due to this controlled release.

What can be done by people helping on the ground in the days/weeks after this has passed?

And when would you expect the airports to open back up for everyone to get in?

I don't have a lot of money to donate, but I can donate my time.

Honestly, seeing all of the videos and pictures really makes my heart drop. The hurricane passed by my town. We got really high winds and a lot of rain but the overall damage was minimal. Most of our town is without electricity but that will be restored.

I really hope all of you guys are safe.

Best Wishes to all you folks being affected. I moved away years ago, but this stuff is hard to stomach watching from afar. I can't imagine what it's like for everyone in the middle of it.

They actually are calling for an evacuation for bayous that will undergo a "controlled release" of water to prevent a more uncontrolled issue due to the dam breaking

    just watched live explanation...

maps of "thousands" of homes upstream of Addicks and Barker Reservoir that will be flooded is at https://www.hcfcd.org (which is down now due to traffic)

the release is NOT what cause the flood upstream (that's water going into the pool there from upstream)

the release will add to buffalo bayou which increases chances of more flooding there

they have to release because they fear dam failure

Alright guys. Rain isnt slowing down and water is maybe 2-3 feet from my garage. Started to unplug most of my electronics and moved them to high tables and tried our best to seal the doors with towels/old clothes but who knows if that'll do anything. Once I see water sap through the doors, going to probably shut off the breaker to the house.
