I'm glad this hurricane got hyped up to the level it did. A lot of people took a LOT of precautions prior in regards to gas, food, water.
Where I'm at, it was pretty much the same as it was last April and during Allison. Maybe a little bit worse.
So flooded overnight and relatively okay depending on how far you are from the Brazos river? That sounds encouraging.
Same here. So far, one sister flooded (3 feet in the house, rescued by boat in Meyerland). Haven't been able to get her on the phone. Mom is safe, but land-locked in a high-rise condo along braes bayou. Other sister in Heights is saying what you're saying here...I could drive down to help with sweat-work in aftermath, but still might be no where to go/stay....due to sister being displaced and needing a place herself.
Welp, my parents house in Friendswood is flooding now from Clear Creek. They have never flooded and went through Claudette and Allison there. Now they are flooding. This is monumental flooding here. I wish I could get over there to help but there is no way I could get there.
Same here. I'm in Katy and we're doing ok, but I have a coworker in Meyerland whose house is underwater.
Every time something like this happens, one of my first thoughts is about how happy I am that I sold that house in Meyerland. This would have been the 3rd time since it sold that it would have had just tons of water inside the house. At this point, you just can't live there unless you have a house with a first floor 8-10 feet above the ground.
This has been so brutal for so many. So many roads are becoming impassable. Hoping everyone on this forum and folks in our city stay safe amidst this unbelievable tragedy.
What improvements can be made for better drainage? Might need to dig more channels into the Gulf. And build more massive reservoirs.
Houston may not be visually appealing but the people and the good samaritans are some of the best around I think I'll remain a Houstonian midtownian for life
