All FWY in town are flooded when you get to the lowest parts ALL of them. And we're getting more rain, I'd stay away.
[The] United States Army Corps of Engineers, which owns the dams, which are located near the intersection of Interstate 10 and Beltway 8, slapped Addicks and Barker with an "extremely high risk of catastrophic failure" label. The dams are currently two of the country's six most dangerous, according to the Corps. _____ Crazy times -- the actual center of the storm is close to Austin now (or came close early this AM) neighbors lost a massive live oak -- gusts are definitely tropical storm strength. I have a bunch of family/ friends in Southeast Houston [Clear Lake, Seabrook, etc.] and they are basically waiting to be flooded out. The worst flooding I ever saw in Clear Lake was TS Claudette and this is exponentially worse.
Sad thing is you can take all the precautions but you can't do much about your house flooding Only thing you can do is stay home. Dont act stupid and start driving
My sister in League City has 5 FT in her house. Cars under water. None of the houses on her block are two story and the water is rising.
My friends went out last night and their brand new mercedes couldn't make it back. They live on the high rise at Studemont. No roads are really safe es at night
Just saw report that residents were in their attic waiting 9 hours to be rescued and finally someone show up this morning. In BR flood last year, many locals have small boat and were doing a lot of the rescue. I hope many here can do that. I know LA has already started sending their rescue crew over here.
For those too young to remember TS Claudette... _____ In Alvin, 42 inches (1,100 mm) of rain fell in one day, which is the record 24‑hour precipitation amount for any location in the United States.
The good news the worst of it will be peaking soon. The bad news is this storm is expected to sit over the region for the next week as it burns itself out. I am really surprised more people did not evacuate, especially those who lived in areas that were remotely at risk to flooding. I expect things to really change in Houston after this.
This maybe a long shot, but are there services that transport people out of high flood areas? My friend is stuck at i-45 and telephone road.
At any time today will either houston Pottery Barn be open? Highland Village is supposed to open at 11am but they weren't answering their phones at all yesterday, and Town & Country village doesn't open until 12n on sundays. This is getting ridiculous.
One more tidbit from the article... _____ The Corps, which has put in a couple of quick fixes that may or may not work, says the soonest that Addicks and Barker can be fully repaired is by September 2017.
