I'm already in Dallas. Terrible drive with a baby and two dogs, but glad I'm not making the drive once it's too late.
I'm actually getting pretty worried about this. I think Rita was a complete flop and Ike was nearly 10 years ago so we're (as a city) showing less concern for this than we should. Thinking about heading out tonight and going to Austin or something.
You'd be better off leaving right now, the longer you wait, the better the chance of you getting caught up in the massive traffic jam that we all know is coming.
I30 Toll East of Austin was freaking packed and crawling with cars. I can usually do a brisk 90 all the way up it at this time of day. All of the cars were packed with belongings and people so knew they had to be fleeing the coast for Dallas.
Stay safe, bro. Back in my FL days, we didn't care about anything under a category 4 (we actually welcomed them for days off school/hurricane parties lol), but I haven't really kept up with this storm and what the flooding situations might be. Get out of there if you don't feel comfortable. Better safe than sorry.
Yeah back when I lived in Florida it wasn't a big deal most of the time either. Houston just floods way too damn easy. Last time we had a hurricane I didn't have power for 2 weeks. It legitimately became a swamp. Good advice. It's not taken seriously until 290 and 45 are at a bumper to bumper standstill from one end of the city to the other.
I just filled up my gas tank and every pump has 3 cars in line. Ridiculous, is not a zombie apocalypse. Waters are sold out glad I have a refrigetaror with filter water.
Couldn't imagine no power for 2 weeks. 2 days without power was a nightmare... warming up canned soup with candle heat hah. Worst case scenario if you go to Austin is you waste some time and money, but you stay safe and maybe end up with some cool stories.
Yea this is crazy. I have a huge feeling this is just going to be a whole overreaction but the people out there are stressing. Every client at work I spoke to on the phone said they were super worried.
Came here to post this. People are freaking out on twitter, the "doctor" on the Weather channel in the super short skit said it was unprecedented storm and then the forecast model appeared on screen and showed 11 inches of rain. I was like "whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?"
