Sherman? The same man that killed thousands of American Indians, called them savages and led the Indian Wars for over a decade and starved them to death? The same man that was sympathetic to the South on the issue of slavery? A man that said black people were inferior? A man that felt that blacks were not capable of living with whites unless in bondage?

Sherman was in many ways a product or reflection of his time and to a great deal should be judged accordingly.

Also, Sherman was a complicated figure that actually was quite lenient to Confederates after their surrender. He famously angered the Lincoln administration by agreeing to allow Confederate states immediately back into the Union and to pardon Confederate soldiers/armies.

Yes. I loved the way he left a path of scorched earth behind him as he cut the South in half.

Not much can be said really, amaru is a pretty crazy extremist when it comes to this issue and seems motivated by some kind of odd hatred. People like him would justify anything if it was "his side" doing it, and lord knows there were plenty of people like him in Germany during the 40's.

What's good is that this country usually ignores voices like his in the end and sanity prevails. Hopefully that'll always be the case.

What i kind of love about his ridiculous hatred is that in some small way, his taxes have gone to pay for benefits to the families of the Confederate soldiers he so hates. As of last year there was 1 remaining, as of 2013, there was still 2. I hope it pisses him off every time he looks at a paycheck. People with that kind of odd and irrational hatred deserve unhappiness. In fact, I think he said he was prior service, if he was Army, I truly hope he was stationed at Fort Hood, a base named after this guy

The federal government, and certainly the military doesn't share his crazy extremist views on American history, and I kind of hope that fact is rubbed in his face a bit.

I usually give people the benefit of the doubt, but extremism is not okay.

Did you like the way the USA brutally beat and killed those that participated in illegal slave rebellions or beat and killed runaway slaves post Dred Scott? They were fugitives and broke the US law at the time.

What does this have to do with the discussion?

By the way, straining so hard to find some violence by Antifa or any group other than Nazi's or KKK makes you look like a complete p***y. You are enamored by power and brute force yet cry like a b**** with a skinned knee when it comes to Antifa or counter protests.

Chivington lead a battle against Texas Confederates and then later the "battle" of Sand Creek.

What's your point: that a lot of Union officers and soldiers were white supremacists? We already knew that.

My point is that it is very easily to vilify people (especially powerful or wealthy people) 150 years ago in the USA. It is very easy to pick out a historical figure and besmirch them or judge their actions harshly.

So when I hear someone say that 1,000,000 people should have been executed (many of them forced to join) I find it to be an incredibly ignorant statement.

Silly me thinking that each state in its reasons for secession listed slavery first and foremost. It is almost as if that was the most important reason for the South trying to secede.

Yeah I can't give details but there is a lot the public doesn't know. Media just wants it to be like a unabomber thing or Antifa but nowhere near. It would be a tragedy to send this guy to prison. Unfortunately with the current climate and it being Federal land or whatever they are attempting to throw the book at him.

This is his 2nd bomb related charge and he's only 25....I know he's likely mentally ill, but I personally hope they lock this guy up and throw away the key. He's simply a danger to society.
