Morey can make it happen by adding in more value for a third team.

More value from us means we have to include capela or gordon or ariza which i dont think morey will do. He knows how important those 3 are for the team. The main problem i think is finding a taker for ryno

Not necessarily. Draft picks are much more viable.

if training camp goes by and a deal still hasn't happened yet then I'll be ready to move on

perhaps this thing will ultimately end in a buyout

What will change once the season starts? Ryan Anderson's contract is still going to be the same. Morey still isn't going to trade Ariza or Gordon.

Why would the Knicks want to really hold onto him through the season? Melo is opting in next year. Just like Wade did this offseason. No team is going to offer him a deal to his liking if he opts out. If you're NY, you hold onto him, and the offense still goes through Melo, taking shots away from Porzingis and Hardaway. God forbid if Melo tweaks something or gets hurt, and then you're really stuck with him for the next two years. All the while treading water at best, or, drowning in the EC.

Woj last week on Kyrie talks:

Teams believe that the Cavaliers expect more aggressive conversations in September, closer to the start of training camps.
    http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/20343088/lebron-future-impacts-cavaliers-kyrie-irving-trades

Not throwing shade at Woj at all — just saying, from a timing standpoint, it's impossible for even him to know. So much posturing. The Knicks want the Rockets to believe they're willing to wait until the season for Morey to panic, and the Rockets want the Knicks to know they're content to wait it out, too. My bet is at least one side is bluffing.

But remember woj said the same about a potential kyrie trade. Then the trade happened right after that lol

EDIT: The Cat beat me to it

Seems pretty obvious to me: they're hoping he'll be open to more teams as time goes on. What if the Rockets struggle to start the year? What if one (or both) of our big 2 gets injured? Would Melo then be more open to going elsewhere?

And then something that's a longshot but IMO cannot be dismissed: what if between now and Feb LeBron starts to show interest in joining NYK?

There's no real benefit to NYK to get this deal done before Dec or Feb.

The main reason he didn't want to waive his NTC was because he didn't want to be far away from his family/son. He's not going to add other teams to his list, IMO. This is his chance to join a contender/one of his best friends. Worst case scenario he just plays in NY, being close to his son, getting paid. All the while Phil Jackson is gone.

While maybe tongue in cheek, or completely serious, who knows, CP was the guy who toasted at Melo's wedding that one day they'll be playing together. The time is now.
