And we already sent that pick to LA. If we sent a 1st to New York it's our 2020 pick, which is too far into the future to be able to safely predict where it will fall.

I disagree that our 2020 pick is guaranteed to be in the 20-30 range. CP3 is old. Ariza is old. Nene is old. If we get Melo, he's old. There is no guarantee these guys will be producing at a high level in 2020. Sure, we'll still have Harden and he should still be producing at a high level. But what if those other guys suddenly fall off a cliff (much like happened to the Nets aging stars)? What if that happens AND Harden gets injured? Again, the Nets were planning on being a dynasty. They thought they'd be able to lure players through free agency. Instead they were stuck over the cap with no star players and no draft picks. I know they traded away more future 1st rounders than we're talking about, but I still think you can look at that franchise and see how the lesson applies. Hell, the Lakers thought they'd be perennial contenders when they traded their 1st round pick to the Sixers. It turned out to be a top 3 pick. You never know the future. And I think it's a foolish gamble. If they want a high ceiling kid like Hartenstein now while we're in win now mode, sure. Do it. If we still had our 2018 pick I'd say fine, do that. But giving up our 2020 pick seems short-sighted and foolish and I don't believe Morey will do it.

If your goal is to win a championship, then those picks shouldn't mean that much. Getting Melo means we are trying to beat the likes of GS and Cleveland, and we should do what we have to as long as we don't deplete our current roster. But on the other hand, if I our goal is to just be better than the second tier teams, then yes I agree we shouldn't be giving up 1st rd picks. If the ultimate goal is a Championship, then you find a way to get Melo without giving up rotation players, meaning if picks have to be involved so be it.

One does not simply "take a break from melo thread"

The Melo thread owns us all

I don't believe Melo puts us anywhere close to the Warriors. I think if we're going to stand a chance against the Warriors, it's more likely to be in 2020 than 2018 and it sure would be nice to have our 1st round pick for use in a trade if a star becomes available then.

Three legit lethal scores with Eric Gordon (the 6th man) coming off the bench actually puts us pretty close to the Warriors.

Man, they're going to have to perform to beat the Warriors dude. But it'll be interesting.

You honestly believe that the completely undefined future of 2020 is a better chance of competing than right now where we already have Harden in his prime, CP3 who is still a top 3 PG in the league, and an awesome supporting cast?

CP3, the addition of Melo, a couple of veteran ringchasers at League minimum, off the bench, and the continued emergence of CC (who is kryptonite to the Warriors)....does indeed put us over the top this year.

I think we still need one more great player after Melo.

Schedules release today at 6. We need to check if Knicks games are nationally televised vs the Rockets

Adding another star player is not going to make us better. There comes a point when adding star just becomes redundant.

If you can't win with 3 stars, then we're just not good enough.
