if a 2020 1st is all that was standing in the way of us getting Melo then I'd be feeling very confident about a Melo trade going down

a 2020 1st is nothing if we're talking about creating a trio of CP3, Harden, and Melo while also making us very attractive to a superstar like Lebron or other stars entering free agency

As long as we have James Harden under contract, I'm OK with trading picks (preferably protected).

It's trading picks beyond Harden's contract...which are worrisome

I'd be willing to part with one first rounder for Melo. But definitely wouldn't be willing to give up anyone in the rotation besides Anderson.

Cap space is like the new "First Round Pick" in the NBA at the moment. You can make your team better quicker in free agency nowadays.

But yes, they do need to make sure there are protections on picks if its 2 to 4 years out, but I don't see that being an issue with Morey. I don't think he's giving up a pick not top 5 protected for Melo much less multiple picks.

It's a calculated bet. Does Morey have confidence in our standing in 3 years?

Need to keep the pick for a possible LeBron trade.

No doubt we are better off with him. I'm happy with the other additions. I wasn't sure, that DM would be able to pull in the role players to fill in the gap. I just don't want to give up Capela plus a 1st round pick for Melo. Our front court is weak. Zhou plus a lottery protected pick and the NG'S and perhaps Gordon would be the max, I would give up for him. I'm reluctant to include Gordon, but no one wants Ryan.

I believe the 2020 first round pick has already been included in the offer New York is waiting on another first round pick

If it needs to be done, you have to do it. It would be insanity if we found out a future first was the ONLY issue delaying a carmelo trade. We're up there with the elite teams, gotta keep our foot on the gas

Thanks for bringing this one up. If you would actually read the post that it refers to you would see that I predicted at the beginning of the year that Nene would get hurt in the second round of the playoffs and we would end up losing because we would have Harden or some other undersized player covering the other team's big man. Guess what...we lost in the second round because Nene got hurt and we had to have Harden get worn out and abused covering Lamarcus Aldridge. Maybe we should pay more attention to my posts!!!

Won't say you're wrong, won't say you're right . You're entitled to your opinion. But the FUTURE is now my friend. Of course I'd much rather give some young prospects over 1st round picks (for future trades) but I probably wouldn't lose sleep over one if it meant getting Melo or Lebron.
