The Knicks have no idea what they're doing this offseason. They gave Hardaway Jr. $71 million like it was Monopoly money. Normally, a team in a similar position would try to shed salary and get as lean as possible. The Knicks could have done likewise; trade Melo, dump Noah, and save up all the money for the 2018 free agency.

For a franchise that needs star power in the biggest market to maintain its appeal, this would have been the best scenario -- a one year compromise. Instead, the front office chose this mess, which becomes even less appealing to potential star free agents going forward.

 

Beez, Mr One-and-Done. Everyone loves having him and are good enough to share with the next team the next year.

 

I wonder how long Perry will last as the GM.

 

If the Knicks endgame has nothing to do with salary shedding then how does switching over affect whether or not they intend to trade a certain expensive player; why does doing this signing now as opposed to after a putative moving on from afore referenced expensive asset ultimately matter?

The signing does make you feel better. Still hopeful a trade happens by training camp.

 

I like Melo is not making a public stink. He is subtle. Most pictures of him out, he is in Ketchup and Mustards. Just a reminder of what he wants without saying it.

 

Might not mean anything but to me it does lean more towards the trade. I'll take any good news at this point though. I'm not convinced that the silence from the teams means its off the table

 

I think the silence has more to do with other considerations for the teams in general, especially the Knicks. The Kyrie thing likely threw a wrench in everything. The new GM has his work cut out for him, even if he has to acquiesce (re: where Melo wants to play) in the end.

 

I hated giving up Cassell and would feel the same way if we surrendered EGO for Melo. I believe we have transformed our team significantly with the additions of CP3, Tucker, Luc and Black. They improve the 3 guys we had for the entire year at those positions last year (Bev, Harrell and Dekker). Hopefully continued improvement of Troy Williams will strengthen our bench further. We also have some Wild Cards in Zhou, Taylor and Oliver, that could surprise with minor roles next year.

I'm not sure how the Beasley signing changes Melo situation tbh...Beasley is a 4, Melo is a 3 in NY so...yeah, i would like to get a good feeling about this but eh...

 

Melo is a 4 even in NY and I believe played a lot of minutes at the 4 last season

 

Yeah he aint a damn 3 anymore.

 

Melo plays the 3 the majority of the time in NY.
