    two questions: why aren't threads simply locked after their statute of limitations runs out? alternatively why wouldn't we expect some enterprising future coder to develop a sort of reverse-engineering search tool that could list threads in order of their original start date? I'm serious

    Shhhh....there is. I'm just @cking with OP bumper to make him possibly feel bad for getting the default Last Post sort order screwed up. "Hey, is this the first thread." Who does that???

    Much prefer just starting a new thread for nostalgia with comments and links. Then other ppl add links to similar threads or ones they like. Those are fun. I don't see any purpose in the actual bump, when a link perfectly suffices.
