JJ Redick said he was on the verge of joining Rockets, but HOU changed 4-year offer to 3-year

Glad we didn't get JJ. I'd rather have Troy out there anyway. EGo is better on all levels and we don't need to take opportunities away from him.

 

4th year team option

 

My theory is Morey quoted him "4 years", but just didn't say only the first three were guaranteed.

So the July 1st phone call Redick mentions in the interview goes like this:

Redick: "So, we still good on this 4yr contract. I'm excited."
Morey, "Yes. Me, too."
Redick "Fully guaranteed."
Morey, "Well .... about that. We prefer a Team Option on yr 4."
Redick "Sounds like a 3yr offer to me."
Morey "Maybe maybe no"

 

Morey seldom signs 4 years guaranteed, with the following exceptions:

1. You are a franchise player
2. Your salary is far below market
3. Your name is Ryan Anderson
