On the plus side, there will be plenty of room next to our division title banner. Definitely will be space for the "we kept our minor league system in tact" flag.
I think most Astros fans understand that every team with a good farm probably has at least 1 or 2 guys the team considers untouchable. I would have been fine if the Astros said - ok, Tucker and Whitley are off limits, but anyone else can be had for the right return. All indications are the Astros were trying to protect a lot more than just Tucker and Whitley.
They thought he "might" be, or potentially could be. Saying they think he "will" be is comical. But, some never doubt Luhnow cause he is perfect
Sorry Lunhow haters, but I just don't see how getting trade raped for Sonny Gray or Zach Britton makes the rest of our pitchers not suck.
You do know it's possible to criticize him and not hate him? He has done a pretty good job as our GM, but if you think Sony Gray or Zach Britton wouldn't help us I'm not sure what to say
Pretty good job? We have one of the top two rosters in the league when healthy along with a top 5 farm system, all on a shoestring budget. Luhnow may have made a mistake here or there, but all in all the job he has done has been nothing short of phenomenal.
Why in the hell didn't they trade him before the deadline if they were gonna accept basically nothing a week later? That trade make no sense from the A's perspective.
I doubt they were looking for just 40 man guys... were probably looking to try and package him with Gray, but the Yankees didn't need him.
Good job isn't enough this year. Going to the WS is necessary after the historic pace and hype of the 1st half of the season. For both the players and fans. Good luck on retaining our stars if they perceive FO can't or won't do enough to win.
Necessary? C'mon man. The very best teams of all time missed the world series. It's baseball. It happens. Im not saying luhnow has been perfect or that he shouldn't have made a trade. He should have. He has done light years better than pretty good here though.
Let's be real. Your method goes beyond simply "criticizing" him. You drop snarky comments whenever you can, here and in the minor league thread. It's becoming rather akin to a former poster here who now lives in infamy. Not the best way to go about your commentary if you don't want to be quickly labeled a Lunhow hater. He's not perfect. No one has ever claimed that. He's made mistakes. We all agree. But it's degenerated into questioning his whole tenure with the Astros and overall philosophy (which most, if not all of you were in full support of not too long ago). Also, didn't he aggressively pursue Britton only to get screwed by the owner? To put that on him to me seems unfair, but I don't know all the facts.
Not exactly a "shoestring" budget. It's small now comparatively but a big part of that is knowing so many young ones will come due at similar times. Those who think we are and will always be a "small market team" aren't being realistic And yes we have a great roster. Let's not forget Altuve was a Purpura signing, Springer and Keuchel were both Ed Wade guys, and Correa, Lance and Bregman all direct results of being intentionally horrible. Some get pissed when anyone brings this up, but we left Bryant on the table. Correa, Lance and Bregman were great choices, Appel and Aiken not so much. As the draft goes past the first round all of the scouting and decision making becomes so much more important, but if you have the dedicated CF poster the number one overall pick, good chance he picks a really good player. If I were making those number one overall picks, we would have Buxton and not Correa, but we would also have Bryant... He has made some great trades (Cosart!), some "meh" ones (Gomez/Fiers) and let some good relievers go to others while not getting anything done. He has done a good job, but those who think he has been incredible along with those who constantly rip on him, are both wrong
We all know money drives contracts...well most of us do BUT....in many cases the money ends up basically the same, and if a player has a dislike for leadership and the money is basically the same, that dislike or distrust certainly could come in to play. I'm not saying that exists here as none of us really have any idea on that...but if it does exist, to think it has zero effect on contracts wouldn't be realistic
Wow. You literally took the words right out of my mouth. Hit the nail on the head. I also can't stand how reluctant he's been to trade his prospects opposed to the guys who were here before him who's shipped off at will. JD Martinez, Folty(who is looking like an ace) I like Gattis but the Braves stole one there, Domingo, Teoscar, VV, practically all previous regimen guys. We still haven't won anything under him. The Cosart trade was genius. He's drafted pretty well I'd say. When you're gifted Tuve, Keuchel & Springer and top 3 draft picks every year I wouldn't expect anything less. Let's see how he does drafting later and if we can win a playoff series under him first..
Fisher is a starting OFer (he's a starting OFer for 29 other teams) for the rest of this year, that was their plan -- once he became a viable option. eta: dont understand why people still bring up Brady Aiken as some sort of negative.
Well most likely we end up with Bregman anyway but not Tucker Most think Rodgers and Tate were going to Colorado and the rangers anyway so we would have gotten Bregman, but not had the second pick for Tucker....so yea ended up with a good one it looks like Aaron Nola or Benentendi or Turner would look good in our uni right now though! ** yes I know the draft is a bit of a crap shoot, but if responding to those who think Luhnow does no wrong, it's fair to bring those guys up in conversation
Biggest reason? Nope. But Fisher made his way onto the roster and that was evident way before Aoki left. "all along" was a terrible choice of words.
