In the post-season, it's about more effort, but it's also about better scheming. Even if you held effort constant, the enhanced ability to scheme for post-season games eliminates huge chunks Ryno's value. Because he is relatively one-dimensional, he doesn't have a lot of counters to the defensive scheme. (By the way, that's why the huge difference with Melo would be in post-season, because he does have those counters.)

 

Kept trying to tell you guys Aug 4th is Josh Jackson trade trigger date. Zhou Qi is not eligible to be traded today, since he signed on July 6th. Zhou can't be traded until the 5th or 6th, depending upon how they count the 30-days rule

Go the ESPN Trade Machine. Zhou is still grayed out as ineligible and Josh Jackson just became eligible today.

The Aug 4th date was spread due to Josh/Kyrie trade deadlines...and propagated (incorrectly) as a trigger date for ALL rookies.

 

Yeah, I kept wondering about all the bouncing about of posts involving "Joe Chee" and today's date. ESPN's trade machine is usually pretty accurate on these things and he can't be traded until the weekend. (Not saying he will be.)

How I do wish a Kyrie Irving trade would go down to remove an obstacle to other potential deals. But all teams are in "we couldn't possibly trade so-and-so, he's our future" mode.

 

It's not entirely homerism. In fact, I could say it's homerism to expect Zhou to not be part of the trade. There are reasons due to salary matching rules without going over the hardcap.

We have to package two of our $1.3m minimum contracts with Ryno, just to make the trade legal. It is arguably homerism to expect to ship off two harmless NG Bros and not someone of actual value. I say that's homerism, because you'd be implying the Knicks value one extra non-guaranteed $1.3m contact over a prospect in Zhou, merely because it provides a tiny bit of cap space if you cut the $1.3m contract.

I think most teams would value a 7'1" young prospect over $1.3m in added cap room. So it's homerism to say our NG Bros are worth more than Zhou.

The reason Zhou wouldn't be traded is probably more about Morey withholding him, and trying to shop the other $1.3m contracts of Long, Quarterman, Taylor and Onuaku. But I'd expect if push comes to shove Morey would include Zhou, just to get the deal done.

It has been money every time he used it. Personally, I felt we should have moved him inside the 3pt line when they started running him off the perimeter and start running elbow pick and pops or dump it to him in the elbow and let him hit some fall-aways to boost his confidence.
