Perhaps if previous administrations had not turned a blind eye to immigration law enforcement we would be in a position where legal immigration did not have to be reduced. There needs to be a cutback to allow for assimilation. The melting pot effect cannot occur with the numbers we currently have.
You have to laugh. These guys were the same crew that said they were against illegal immigration, trying to make clear the distinction between legal and illegal. Now it's clear that was all a bunch of crap and that as a lot of us suspected it's about protecting the dilution of white power and influence in America. This is the new white nationalist agenda, using criteria that impacts race without directly stating it as your goal from voter ID to immigration. Too urban, too brown, too non-white. We see you, always did.
Exactly why many Trump supporters voted for him. And why some people will support him no matter what.
This has nothing to do with race...and there are several that immediately shifted their animus towards the policy because they believe it is racist...This is a major platform that he campaigned about and was elected on. This isnt new information. How are we protecting our American workers and current green card holders from losing out to low skilled new immigrants? Corporations have zero incentive to hire US workers if they can get cheaper alternatives at lower costs...in order to maximize their own bottom line. Furthermore, It is a sad reality that many "unskilled' immigrants often times place an undue burden on our welfare system. By curbing the influx of low skilled workers and redirecting employment efforts to hire high-skilled employees, you can indirectly increase wages and force competition between businesses. This is a very difficult subject to talk about, and glad the administration is taking the debate to the people...Will the media be objective about it? or scream racism like some on this board have already. The administration points to a merit based system that is implemented in other nations...what are its pros and cons...
Why does everything shift to race with you?? The democratic party champions the rights of the middle class...but then immediately seeks to segregate our population based on races...there are poor white, black, hispanic, asian, etc...people. Just like there are wealthy individuals of all types of colors. Stop making this about race. IN regards to LEGAL immigration, is a merit based system just?? what are its pros and cons. Illegal immigration is a CRIME...its illegal for people to enter our nation without doing so through proper channels. As an immigrant, my family and I have understood this...stop pulling the race card out for every damn argument.
Don't generalize, why don't you post the stats on who is wealthy and who is poor. Then give me root causes and then we can walk you to reality. So boring. You can bet that when angry white men are constantly implementing and supporting an agenda that heavily lines up along racial lines and in recent cases like voter ID gets slapped down in court because of race that it's about race. You can pretend though, it's amusing your ability to BS yourself. Trump, Sessions, Bannon, Miller, Breitbart and it's not about race! Sure.
As are most illegal immigrants who don't want further scrutiny, they just want a decent job to support their families. That's fine with me, those countries also allow a much larger % of immigrants. Based on what? We have had an increasingly tight labor market for the last couple of years and still have a lot of unfulfilled jobs. Again, I don't see where America benefits.
Most of the illegal immigrants were already here prior to Obama, that's on the Clinton and Bush Jr administrations for not going after employers.... We still don't go after employers.... I'll take immigration reform seriously when the root of the problem, employers, is addressed. Otherwise it's mostly hot air and just further reveals how uncompetitive too many Americans are.
This is why I kept on saying to all those who said that opposition to immigration was only against illegal immigrants, especially to those who were immigrants or second generation Americans, that this would affect all immigration. Also not surprised to see the continued ignorant view that immigration is a negative and a drag on the economy. Most studies have shown that immigration, including illegal, has been a net positive. I can tell you from personal experience that the current crackdown starting to effect the economy and if it continues will become more obvious. Especially in states like Texas who's economy is very dependent upon both legal and illegal immigration.
This is an important point. We're essentially at full employment. Many employers in fields like manufacturing and construction can't get enough machinists and welders. Immigrants aren't hurting the job market. In fact immigrants working in fields that require lower skill levels such as drywallers are making it possible to do more construction and hire more skilled people. Nothing is stopping "Americans" from working low skilled jobs and with the current crackdown there are many of those positions in things like drywall and agriculture. Few Americans want to do that. At the same time we aren't seeing enough Americans learning trades and getting the skills for other positions that are in high demand.
The party of family values is against uniting family members. Limiting the # of foreign nationals who are able to get green cards to reunite with families already in the US is cruel.
I haven't posted frequently recently so don't remember if I or someone else posted this before but there was study done by Penn Wharton School on the economic effects of immigration and showed that there is a net positive on the economy and on national and state budgets from immigration. http://www.budgetmodel.wharton.upen...s-of-immigration-on-the-united-states-economy
Awesome... Rep Judy Chu trolls Steven Miller after his embarrassing arument with reporter about the Statue of Liberty...
It was embarrassing, for Jim Acosta. Miller aquitted himself quite well. That post was ironic given that Asians are likely to benefit disproportionately from a switch to a merit based immigration system.
LOL... even Fox News' Eric Bolling knew Miller bombed: Fox’s Bolling: Stephen Miller’s Brilliant, But ‘Don’t Put That Guy in Front of the Cameras Again’ https://www.mediaite.com/tv/foxs-bo...t-put-that-guy-in-front-of-the-cameras-again/ btw, Acosta's dad is a Cuban immigrant who came to the US at age 11. So immigration policy is a hot topic with him. Lastly, re: Judy Chu's tweet... more that irony, I'd express respect for anyone that thinks country first. Unless you think its ironic that neither Trump's grandfather or wife would qualify under Trump's proposed immigration limits.
Miller reminds me of a resident poster here on the BBS...a very smart person but always angry and bitter about everything.....if anything, Stephen Miller reminds me of how not to communicate with other human beings...the guy is an *******
This is inaccurate. I haven't checked the grandfather's bonafides but Melania would most certainly qualify based on her english proficiency, college hours, and "high paying job offers" as defined in her H1-B application.
Then in order to prevent cruelty, we shouldn't have allowed them entry to begin with. Allowing them to come here broke their family apart which is cruel apparently.
