Professionalism and high standard is what make everyone safe, including the police. It's simply dumb to think Police being "tougher" and treat criminals unprofessionally with violent is the answer to reducing crime. Of course, in doing so, the innocent will get caught up in it also. Two cons and no pros. PD heads aren't stupid and they know it's counter productive and thus they pushed back hard at such idea.

p.s. but it does feel good - movies told me so

Good reply. So why make the patently false statement that "liberals love criminals?"

That is a way to get more cops killed, not protect them. Cops will increasingly become targets if people feel like they are being abused, and that the cops are also acting as the jury deciding they are guilty without a trial. If people feel that the police are being fair, respectful, and professional they are less likely to target cops, resist arrest, or endanger the lives of Police.

It is precisely because I care about the lives of law enforcement officers that Trump's comments are troubling. It is also why Police departments have recently increased community outreach programs, and have spoken out against what Trump said. They aren't doing that because they like criminals or don't want cops to stand up for themselves, or to face greater risk. They are doing that because attitudes like yours and Trump's would only serve to further endanger the lives of law enforcement officers.

I understand the emotion behind the sentiment of treating detainees roughly, but with only a minimal amount of thought, it is plain that the idea is counter-productive.

my favorite trump moment of the day, apparently the president of Mexico called him just to say how much he's getting immigration under control that people south of mexico are not even attempting to cross over to Mexico because they know they won't get to the U.S.

If I was fake media, I'd call someone close to enrique nieto to verify.
This could be Trump's imaginary friend striking yet again again.

Former Sheriff Arpaio just convicted for contempt of court for continuing to arrest illegals without cause despite court orders to stop. I'm surprised we haven't gotten a tweet from Trump about it yet. Arpaio has got to be his favorite LEO of all time.

Well, you know that hilarious police brutality joke told in front of police officers? Apparently his own DEA didn't get the joke (or the Sanders memo that it was a joke)...

Acting DEA Chief Rebuts Trump’s Remarks on Police Use of Force
    https://www.wsj.com/articles/acting...rks-on-police-use-of-force-1501601334?tesla=y

And here is why Trump's speech was so offensive. Even *if* he was "joking" )and I doubt he was... I think he was trying to be "tough on crime" in what he thought was a supportive audience), Trump's "joke" was so offensive considering all the efforts law enforcement is making in light of the number of instances where police officers are being accused of abuses by parts of the American community. And Trump adds fuel to the fire. Trump needs to apologize to the hardworking and honest law enforcement officers whose jobs were made harder and more dangerous by his speech, er, "joke".

That's because it is nearly impossible to make a causal connection between a spike in violence and a Democratic Mayor.

You do realize that nothing in here supports your claim of causality, right?

Such a convincing argument. Look at all that data, time, and effort you put into your post.

Why would I put time into it when you obviously don't understand what is required to establish causality?

It isn't up to me to disprove it, it is up to you to prove it. You do so with data and statistical analysis, not with assumptions.

When stop and frisk was ruled unconstitutional in NY 4 years ago, some warned a crime wave would be the result. Trump continue to believe in that tactic. They are wrong.

New York City murder rate heading toward historic low, stats show

Police brass have touted the department’s anti-gang efforts and credit their emphasis on targeting street crews and repeat offenders for the sharp drop in shootings.

The NYPD also point to its new precision policing approach as a more effective alternative to stopping and frisking people in minority neighborhoods — a widely criticized tactic used by cops under former Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly.

This will be flat out ignored by every conservative poster on this board that was stroking their **** over the idea of stop and frisk.

I suggest you create a new thread about this. It's deserves its own thread. Would be a rather interesting discussion.
