I'm pretty sure the Aug 4th date is specific to Josh Jackson and Irving deals, and nothing to do with a Melo to Rox deal, except at best, indirectly as a domino trade that must fall first. Jackson signed on July 4th

So, as what often happens on the internet, ppl talking about the Irving deals saw reference to Aug 4th, wrt Jackson, and got it in their head Aug 4th is a trade date for all rookies...and now are saying it might be a pause-factor date relevant to Melo to Rockets.

It isn't. Rookie trading rules are specific to the signing date of each rookie. 30-days no trade after signing.

 

Finally someone posting something that is news worthy, and has something to do with this thread. Not stupid trade ideas...

i don't see how reddick can be considered much worse than ryno defensively. as far as him getting $23M, that's a one-time one-year deal thing that was so outrageous even he couldn't refuse and decided to essentially waste a year in philly just to collect that paper. and we were woefully thin in the frontcourt last season, so it's not as simple as just saying without ryno we're a .500 team. for instance if we had tucker last year (or $20M worth of other frontcourt players) we probably do just fine with ryno out.

Nope - Harden was traded to Houston just before the 1st game of the season (late October). He was still in OKC during training camp and pre-season.
