Like I said, you don't get the basic facts.

There is no team out there with cap space that wants Ryno. There is a team out there that agreed to take on Ryno but it's impossible for them to do so without sending out salary.

You set up an impossible scenario: List a team that takes Ryno back without sending out a bad contract. It's impossible.

Yes, all of that "the Rockets have been unable to find a team to take Anderson in a deal" reeks of lazy journalism........filling in the void of summer with conjecture. There'll be a team or three interested in Anderson, but with an extra team or even teams involved in a deal, that's the complication. And making it palatable to everyone involved.

Any chance that the Rockets can use another Amnesty clause for Ryan Anderson.

The fact that we'er not hearing anything through the media regarding Melo is exactly how morey operates and the trade is being worked imo.

Just to clarify: I'm not suggesting that the Knicks will get cap space next year from a Carmelo deal. If they were, I'm pretty sure this deal would've been done 3 or more weeks ago. I think they're probably having to absorb longer-term salaries in these proposals, such as the popular Harkless/Leonard idea. What I'm suggesting is that in terms of long-term cap impact, the gap between Carmelo at 2 years, $54M and contracts like Harkless/Leonard isn't wide enough to go through the headaches of keeping Carmelo (chemistry, distraction, awkward positional fit, possibility of Melo going nuclear, etc.).

It doesn't guarantee a deal, and certainly, James Dolan is notorious for being stubborn. My point is simply that when you accept Carmelo as a 2-year, $54M guy -- i.e. that he's almost certainly not going to opt out in this environment -- the gap between Carmelo on that deal (a bad contract in its own right) and a package such as Harkless/Leonard may not be wide enough to be worth all the headaches that come with keeping him, at this point.

wrong. there is no team out there that wants ryno -- unless they can unload their own toxic crap (see meyers leonard) in the process or collect 1st round draft picks attached to ryno's toxic contract. POR is not willing to send out aminu for instance, because aminu at least has some value.

it's not about just needing salary to make things work, it's about ryno's contract being underwater negative. and let's be honest here, nobody wanted ryno in free agency last year either. sacramento has been floated around as having had interest, but if that's the case then where the hell are they now?

There is nothing special about Aug 4th.

Unsigned rookies that were drafted can be traded at any time. Signed rookies can't be traded dor 30 days after the day they signed. So, the rule is specific to each rookie.

Also, bare in mind that Rookies can sign as soon as July 1st, anyhow. They don't have to wait until after the Moratorium like veterans do. So, if you read Aug 4th somewhere, it was probably in reference to a specific rookie who signed on July 4th. (Or would it be July 5th signing, I suppose.)

    Anyhoot,
    • rookies can sign on July 1st. Some sign immediately, some not. They do have a whittle negotiating room.
    • Signed rookies can't be traded for 30 days after signing
    • Unsigned rookies (like Steve Francis) can be traded at any time

That's my point though. At least you see it. I understand there are a couple teams that would take him, but to take a Ryno and have to find a place for a Myers Leonard and another bad contract is essentially the same issue (albeit Ryno is still a useful player unlike Leonard). This is why I really really hope Melo manages to stay stubborn and refuse to expan his list whatsoever cuz a buyout is way more realistic than finding landing spots for these contracts. I don't know what goes through Melos head so maybe some posters are right when they say he won't waive his no trade clause for anyone but us. But what would you do if you're he Knicks if that was the case, orchestrate a trade where you're getting back contracts with 3 years remaining and 8 digit salaries for useless players or wait out a buy out? The whole notion that they won't want to look bad to future free agents and should please Melo through a trade is ridiculous. They know the scrutiny they will face if they get back horrible assets.

If you guys are going to keep bumping on this thread it better be about news on Carmelo. Not about your stupid trade ideas or useless crap. A** holes!

I have to agree with u for the most part. There are takers for Ryno, as in they will take him if they get assets in return or get to unload some of their unwanted contracts in the process. The Knicks can get back a negative value asset in Ryno or garbage that a 3rd team sends out for taking on Ryno instead. They don't like either of those options, and for good reason. The hope is that they'll fold or eventually agree to a buyout.
