Sure, making a big trade could have backfired and not resulted in winning the WS. BUT, if we are eliminated early in the playoffs then Luhnow is 100% the guy to blame. Obviously the players are the ones actually dictating the outcomes, but Luhnow had a chance to increase our odds of winning it all. And instead of doing so, he chose to hold on to prospects (which a majority of whom won't ever be a quality major leaguer).

Calhoun, Alexy, and Brenden Davis were the Dodgers' 4, 17 ,and 27th ranked prospects. In Astros terms, that's Fisher, Freudis Nova, and Armenteros.

That's not a bad return for a half season rental from the Rangers perspective. If anything, it makes the 2.5 years of club-controlled Gray look like a complete thievery.

I get the sense that the Rangers would've asked for more from their in-state/in-division rivals than someone from the NL.

It's all rigged guys. You are just in here to shake your fist and cheer on minor league prospects.

    Talking heads on MLBNetwork:

(Rotation good enough?) Verducci: I don't think it is. ... It makes Dallas Keuchel one of the most important players in baseball.
Harold: They didn't address the what-if.
(Some other guy) Windows don't come along often.

"I worry about the Astros rotation. They didn't add anything. That could be a problem."
"Durability is the problem. You can't waste this lineup & this year. They have to have some concerns now."
"They have to be healthy. Their biggest opponent & challenge is the injury bug."

(Before the Darvish news came down)
    WS favorties right now
    Dan: Astros/Dodgers
    Tom: Indians/Dodgers
    Harold: Astros/Nationals
    Greg: Indians/Cubs

This team more than likely isn't gonna win the WS, regardless of what we did at the deadline.I personally don't feel our chances would have gone up much even if we had made a deal, so I don't feel much worse than I did this morning. Having said that, Luhnow set himself up for a major PR pain in the ass if we don't win it all.

Disappointed myself seeing the cost of some of these players. If our price was comparable (which it very well may not have been) we should have added Gray, and our bullpen isn't in great shape right now.

As good as he has been at putting together this organization, winning in the postseason will be what he is judged by. he is betting on himself and his prospects to get that done...time will tell.

I am pretty sure you said "I had the ability to look into seasons". Is seems what you really meant was you looked at his results from 2014 and made that determination. Or more likely you had absolutely no clue how he would perform and you are simply using hindsight.

Exactly - no guarantees in MLB. That's why you should go all in when you have a chance and the chips are there. We are in a good position but could have bolstered our position

Hope the bats are hot come playoff time, because we don't have the pitching to hang in a battle.

Yankees added a controlled Gray, two strong pen arms and a 5th starter, and held their elite level prospects

Never seen so much pessimism from a fanbase of a team who is 16.5 games ahead in the division. Especially in a sport where the postseason is largely variable and flukey... I'm disappointed for sure but it isn't the end of the world at all. They will still have home field advantage in the American League and the best offense in the MLB.

Getting into the AL championship series would be a reasonable goal now.

No chance of getting into the WS, I think.

Team morale is big factor in team performance, so with confidence of the opponent. We are not intimidating anyone right now after losing 13-0 and 9-0 to Tigers and Phillies.

Can we get our mojo back? Who will rally the team?

I bet we could have had Darvish, Gray, AND Wilson for the following:

Darvish- Derek Fisher, Jake Rogers, Freudis Nova

Gray- Franklin Perez, JD Davis, Cionel Perez

Wilson- Yordan Alvarez, Teoscar Hernandez, Jason Martin

And we'd still have Tucker, Whitley, and Martes

Cool you got me on the season/seasons disparity. Congrats.

I remember at the time knowing he had a history of blowing up in the 2nd half... And what did he do? Sucked in the 2nd half. It was a bad move.

And somehow all of you suddenly just think the MLB trade deadline is the same as NBA?
