I don't think they can afford to stand pat and have a legitimate shot this year. The pen is not good enough as is, especially if Keuchel and McCullers don't get back to form. If we don't make a move, it's hard to understand the logic.
But just think how good we can be in 2019 Tucker will be ready by then, maybe Martes will be ready to replace Keuchel as an ace 2019, that's gonna be the year Of course that's assuming the other teams in the race in 2019 don't add while we hoard more prospects
Regardless... We can all agree that Wilson isn't a difference maker. Britton is the guy the bullpen really needs to glue it together. He's one of the best closers in game when healthy.
Rockies add Lucroy. Not an AL team but most other teams in race making moves to fill holes. Still time but don't think Springer, Altuve, and CC aren't paying attention.
A great scenario: Cubs bleed out for Wilson Yankees bleed out for Gray Dodgers pony up for Verlander Astros get Britton and Darvish.
Would it make sense if we can't get a top pitcher to try and get Andrew McCutchen. Just take the Rockets strategy and out score the other team. Adding him to our lineup would be deadly. Question is would you drain the farm to get him?
I am not the GM. But to me it is clear we hwv pitching issues. I don't trust our pen and Lance has issues. If we go into the post season with our current pitching staff I will not have the greatest confidence and feel we blew an opportunity. Good pitching usually beats good hitting.
Wished Astros still had Josh Fields. He's doing so well for the dodgers. 5-0 2.68 era 0.97 whip, would easily be our best reliever.
The Astros better get something. I mean who knows if Dallas will be healthy. Our current game 1 starter is probably Mike fiers. Lance is just completely sucking, and our bp is injured and not good.
The Astros better make some moves. The relief pitching is god awful and unreliable. Sipp, Martes, Gregerson, Hoyt - TERRIBLE! Starting pitching is ok but wouldn't hurt to insert another good, proven starter. I just hope McCullers' slump is temporary.
The guy who hit 3 Hrs today? With less than 24 hours until the deadline that's now how Lunhow works. They'd want the farm.
I think the Astros will circle back to Hand. The current depth issues are likely causing them to balk at some offers. I imagine Martes and Fisher are more valuable for the Astros than they were a month ago with the slate of bullpen woes and position player injuries. The plan in June was to likely use those players as leverage away from dealing the talented youth like Tucker and Whitley. I'm thinking Yordan Alvarez and JD Davis for Hand.
For 3 or 4 of our top prospects? Not a chance with our need for bullpen help. Springer will be back next weekend, CC in 4 weeks, hopefully. I'd prefer a super bullpen over anything else but it looks like Lunhow is being pretty stubborn with the farm.
