Deals get done in August and September all the time, and the vast majority under very similar circumstances -- talks that started in June/July, but one or more teams weren't completely thrilled with their return... so with training camp months away, they wait to see if anyone blinks and offers up more.
Glad the other thread is closed. I feel sorry for those who defended its existence. To be so naive... it must be a burden. Anyone have any Knicks updates? Maybe not even specifically tied to Melo. A hope of mine is (/was) that they'd want to get this deal done fast so they could focus on Porzingis, but that's obviously not the case.
So the only way this trade works under the salary cap is if the Rockets only take back Melo's salary and get rid of all of the following players: Ryan Anderson Tim Quarterman Isaiah Taylor Shawn Long Chinanu Onuaku Otherwise, if the Rockets want to keep Taylor or Onuaku, they would have to wait until August 28th, when they can trade Jarrod Uthoff
I think it would be good for Porzingis to hone his skills another season at the MSG......he can leave afterwards or ask for a trade.
This is a grudge match between Melo and NYK and a poker game between Morey and NYK. If something happens, it's either going to happen VERY suddenly, or not at all.
