Again, if you are going to use bigoted terms to describe people you admit not knowing anything about, don't be surprised to be called out for it. And seriously, hiding behind "although studies have said" and "I didn't say it"? You seem to care what others think about you, and you seem to believe that bigotry is wrong...

Those who are so wrapped up in pretending to be a member of the opposite sex that they feel the need to mutilate their genitals IMO shouldn't be in the military because that's mentally unstable behavior and I don't think the military should deal with people like that. Again, being ADHD is a disqualifying condition for military service because it potentially threatens combat readiness. The military is just not the place for that kind of thing.

Not everyone is cut out to be in the military, it's not that big a deal. I have a friend who would have loved to have served, but he has epilepsy and the military doesn't feel like dealing with the baggage that comes with epileptic members. Their goal is lethality and mission readiness, not allowing as many people as possible to serve. .

It's not a matter of their bravery, it's a matter of their baggage. The bravest person in the world could have ADHD and the military wouldn't allow them to join.

ADHD in and of itself is not a disqualifier.

Haven't you been paying attention? Facts are bigoted if small minded people don't like them and can't refute them.

Yes it really is. At one point ANY history of ADHD would disqualify someone, now they allow waivers if it was just a childhood diagnosis and you no longer have it (or claim to no longer have it and have not taken any meds for it in at least 5 years). Those who currently are treated for ADHD can not join under any circumstances.

When I say this, I say it because I have friends who are still in and are recruiters, and it's one of the biggest pain in the ass things they have to deal with.

According to information published at the Web site of the United States Naval Academy, ADHD is no longer an automatically disqualifying condition, however, there are strict qualifications. “Academic skills defects, such as learning disabilities or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder are not disqualifying if academic success can be demonstrated without the use of classroom accommodations, and no medication has been used in the past 12 months, with good grades.”

Oh it's down to 12 months? At one point it was 5 years. Anyway, the medication thing is what really snags people.

    Everyone has a "mental state".

So how does "mental state" justify discrimination against transgender people who have bravely volunteered to serve our country?

How does "mental state" justify discrimination against schizophrenic people who have bravely volunteered to serve our country?

You're comparing transgender people to those with schizophrenia? OK.

You are the one that tried to support denying transgenders the right to serve our country based on their "mental states"? And you ducked the question, so I ask it again: So if everyone have mental states, why should transgender people be discriminated against?

In that both have mental conditions that IMO the military shouldn't have to deal with. Just like any mental condition there's a spectrum and no doubt some people will be able to deal with it so well as to not let it affect their life, and those people will likely continue to serve as they always have. Hell I have a friend who served for 8 years that had schizophrenia. It wasn't a problem before that, but when it started to be a problem and he was officially diagnosed with the condition, they chaptered him out. It doesn't make him any less brave or lesser of a person, it's just how it is and IMO how it should be. Combat readiness is more important than protecting feelings from being hurt.

Like I said in my original posts, people more informed than me made this decision. Of course that is a bigoted answer but whatever.

I truly hope your concern (and volunteer efforts and donations) extends to the veterans, who suffer from mental issues at an alarming rate and at numbers we are not prepared to deal with effectively.
